Does anyone know if voice recognition software like Dragon will work with Sage 100 version 2013? My client has a user who is their key Purchasing agent and they are looking to make data entry easier for him based on some new physical limitations/disability. TIA

Are they looking to read the Sage data on the screen or have the PA speak the input instead of keying? Interesting issue.

I use Dragon all of the time. It tends to work in most any windows application. I have used it specifically in Sage 100 to enter long notes instead of typing, but I have never used some of the quick shortcuts. I would imagine it is like any other Windows application as far as the pull down menus go. There are verbal commands for menus. Of course it is a dream in standard Office applications.

They are looking to speak the input instead of keying in data. They have very large PO's with lots of comment information so this gentleman who recently lost a hand in a work related accident has all of this knowledge in his head about these comments and no way to get it easily into the PO's.

I can't contribute to anything related to dragon software, but I had surgery on my right arm a few years back and had it in a sling for about 6 weeks. I downloaded software to allow you to type one handed. I was absolutely amazed at how quickly my brain adjusted and learned how to type one handed. There are also right and left handed keyboards available for about 500-600 dollars. just a thought.

Don't know about integration with Sage but I think you're looking in the right direction with Dragon. One of our site editors at Geardiary used voice recognition for quite some time and I can put you in touch with him if you like as he may have tried a bunch of other technical products as well and could give feedback.

@DavidOverholt, what software was it you used? I'm curious how it helped you type one-handed because I was in a sling recently and was forced to type with just 1 hand.

Google ""half-qwerty"" This was several years ago, but basically it allows you to hold the space bar down and hit a key. When you do that it types the mirrored key instead. So if I hold space and hit ""f"" it types ""j"" instead (the same key my right hand would have hit.) Somehow my brain picked that up really quickly. Typing was a little slower at first but about the time I got out of the sling I was type at about normal speed.

Thanks everyone for you feedback. I am going to recommend they spend the 150.00 and get a copy of Dragon for this user.

I use Dragon everyday. I have also used it in Sage to enter long comments on Sales Orders but not much more. SO I just tried to create a PO without touching the keyboard... I was able to launch SAGE and logon, open Purchase Order Entry by commands like ""click modules"" ""click purchase order"" and ""click main"" etc... I was also able to navigate the PO screen by using the hotkey shortcuts, like ""press alt 2"" or ""press F2"". In the lookup it recognizes ""press S"" to jump to the first ""S"" vendor in the list. It is a bit cumbersome to move down the list because I had to say ""move down"" multiple times to simulate the down arrow (maybe I don't know a better command?) Numbers are a bit wonky in the lines area, I had to speak one-point-zero to enter a number, just saying ""one"" would try to stuff text into the quantity field. Saying ""alt 4"" takes you to the totals and ""alt K"" to quick print. All in all I would say once you learned the most efficient commands it would probably work very good.

Since it came up, there is also a Dvorak left-handed and right-handed keyboard (and a two-handed keyboard). Google Dvorak keyboard. We used to be able to remap the keyboard layout in Windows and then you just switch the key tops on your keyboard to match the electronic layout. No cost, unless you want to buy an extra keyboard to keep from having to switch the key tops back and forth. It's a good way to be able to speed up a person's ability to type much faster, even if you're two-handed, the Dvorak layout will at least double your speed. Of course, you do need to practice so you can do the touch type. The downside is, it's not really practical if you're supporting several systems with the current QWERTY layout.

Sounds like Dragon is a feasible solution. Anybody know how that compares to the Speech Recognition feature that comes with Windows (Control Panel > Ease of Access >Speech Recognition)?

Here's 3 links that appear to address how the two compare, but I'm curious to know if anyone has first-hand info. 1. http://anewdomain.net/2014/01/28/lamont-wood-windows-speech-recognition-vs-dragon-naturallyspeaking-shootout/ 2. http://eclectic-thoughts.com/2013/01/dragon-naturallyspeaking-vs-windows-7-speech-recognition/ 3. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/officeversion_other-office_install/windows-7-speech-recognition-component-vs-dragon/dc3969b2-9fd0-41c3-9169-c065a557077e?db=5
