I received a phone call from them. After basically pointing out that they might want to investigate the ability to track deleted quotes and report on them from SO History they decided that they would ""get back to me""... The kryptonite will be the mention of any fee over $40 an hour billed in 5 minute increments or a timeline that is longer than by the end of today </sarcasm> They are not my customer though they left VM stating they queried both their current VAR and Sage on this issue. Unless I've mid-diagnosed this (possible as I'd not done a preliminary on them yet so there may be other issues) they're basically jumping from contact to contact to see who will give them the best price.

That's what I thought, too. I hardly ever get a call direct, so it's little weird for me.

Alan Rice should be the guy -- he was pretty open about just wanting a one-off question. I'm going to be sticking to my diagnosis fee because virtually all web inquiries that begin with ""I found you in a web search"" are requests for free or they want just enough info to use to get another quote.

Thanks. I should pay more attention to threads like this, but until it happens you tend to skim and not really pay attention.

Here's what I'm using now for all my web inquiries where they've clearly only found me via search: I'd be happy to have a look Here's a link that shows our costs and your options for diagnosis. In many cases we can fix the issue at the same time as we review the situation - however it's not a guarantee since there may be other factors that we need to take into consideration after we look closer at the issue. http://www.s-consult.com/request-information/diagnosis/ Thanks ---

Key is don't give advice on the first call, setup the fee as ""diagnosis"" and key it off how quickly they want you to respond. I've done more than a few where they selected a $650 option and I resolved the issue in 15 minutes. If given away the value of the diagnosis becomes $ 0 Learn from my many mistakes....

O course if you are going to solve it in 15 minutes, get your money in advance..................
