Does anyone have experience with the Enhanced Scheduling module for JobOps? This was just demoed by Stacy to one of our existing JobOps clients. There is a high level of interest. It looks like you need to be pretty careful with implementation setups in order for this to succeed.

The Scheduling module is very complex, and needs to be treated as such. Many have licensed it, but few maintain or master it. We currently only have one installation that uses it. It's important that someone be assigned, at least part time, to maintain and monitor the schedule. In some cases this is a full time job, as it is in many larger companies. If it is not maintained, it's useless and users may claim it doesn't work. Yes, set up is very important. If it is properly set up and maintained, it is a very powerful function that should help the company optimize labor and materials, as well as being competitive.

Thanks John, I appreciate the comments. Sounds like this application needs an experienced touch for a successful implementation. They are a long term user of the standard JobOps functions with Time Tracker.

Alan, I agree with John. Scheduling is a challenging module. Synergistic has indicated that they are going to work on it and they need to do so. But scheduling in general is a tough nut to crack. Everyone has a different opinion of how it should perform which makes its setup and maintenance a challenge. I have worked on a number of scheduling installations and have the same result as John - no one is actually using it.

Did http://www.planettogether.com/#integration ever get any traction with Job Ops. Several years ago, they ""claimed"" integration with Work Order but it just seemed weak due to WO's BF limitations. Perhaps the time is now to look at it again for JO????? But then, ANOTHER bolt on......

There would be no motivation for Synergistic to cooperate with a third party to integrate a scheduling function, since they already have a fully integrated, native scheduling application. The primary reason the application may need ease of use enhancements (if it really does) is that the majority of manufacturers in this market either don't understand scheduling or have not committed sufficient resources to the function. Education and process reviews may help, but they are unwilling to invest in this, even though they could save money.
