  • 1.  "Do you want to save changes?" - when no changes were made while scrolling through records

    Posted 07-23-2025 09:27

Looking for feedback re: the "Do you want to save changes?" prompt when scrolling through records in Sage 100 even if no changes were made.  I feel like this has been discussed a ways back, but surprisingly I'm not finding much information.  My take is that it's simply not of concern, I experience it somewhat-frequently in User Maint and A/R Payment Type Maint (bit of a nuisance).  As best I can tell it just has to do with how the system is reading data, and possibly just related to one or specific settings that are having some impact.  A client just mentioned they're seeing this in Employee Maint.

I have seen this behavior before too. I "think" that it is typically after an upgrade and my assumption is that a new field has been added to the table that I'm accessing and that is what is triggering the "do you want to save" message.  I go ahead and click YES  and the next time I access that record I do not get the message.

I have seen this happen at several clients, usually in Library Master > Security > User Maintenance.

If it happens after an upgrade such as the case with User Maint and Payment Type Maint, then like @David Overholt said it's usually because there was a new field in the table (in the dictionary and clicking Convert in Company Maint probably should've taken care of it meaning it's probably a small bug).

For Employee Maintenance this probably wouldn't be expected. One reason could be a script that fires off in the PostRead event (meaning when you choose the Employee No) that does a SetValue to a field in PR_Employee for whatever reason. When you click the arrow to move to the next record, since there is a pending save from the SetValue, it would force the prompt "Do you want to save changes?" To check to see if that's the case, go to UDF Maint, find PR Employee Master, then rt-click and choose User Defined Scripts.

What I don't understand is that when this happens for me in User Maintenance, it doesn't happen for all records, only some.  There is no commonality among the records for which it does occur (or among those for which it doesn't occur).

@Susan Pawlowic - Date that record was last updated?

I believe I've also seen it occur in Paperless Form Maintenance after the "PDF File Name" field was added.

@Beth Bowers not sure, never checked.  I will next time.

@Barbara Goldstein I see that in PL Maintenance too, but it's a little different where it asks you to populate the new field rather than a generic message asking if you want to save the record.
