  • 1.  Do email settings get overwritten when migrating just company data (no System files Migration?

Recently we did an upgrade and server move for a client.

Version 2023 upgrade to Version 2025

This was a premium-to-premium upgrade. We first did a test migration/upgrade/conversion. The client then changed the Email settings in company maintenance in the 2025 version.  After they tested for about a week, we remigrated company data only and upgraded that company. When the client went live yesterday, email did not work, and it appears that the email settings reverted back to the previous version 2023 settings.

This is not urgent, and the client has put the settings back in now. Since email settings are stored in SY_Company.M4T, I would not have expected that to happen.

Does anyone know if those are somehow overwritten, or did something else happen? This client has only one user and one IT person and I'm fairly certain neither of them went in and manually changed them back.

Since this was a server move I have noted below the steps we used to upgrade:

    • Copy v2023 mas90 folder from Server A to Server B
    • Backup MAS_XXX company SQL Database on server A
    • Restore MAS_XXX company SQL Database to the 2023 SQL install on Server B (data from previous step)
    • Migrate data from v2023 to version 2025
      • only migrated Company data. We did not migrate system data
    • Ran Data conversion and all "normal" upgrade steps like custom office updates etc.

let me know if anyone has seen this before.

I think a few other things are included too (with a company-only migration), like Paperless journal history.

Yes, good point - we were aware of the paperless office files coming over and were ready to deal with that. It is good to know that the email settings coming in with company data.  it does make me wonder what else might be lurking in the wings though.

I believe these come over too:

    • company specific panel edits.
    • company specific forms / reports.
    • company specific Paperless paths.
