Do Alias Item # work in Item Inquiry WITHOUT having to use the alias lookup button? I have a customer who wants to scan a UPC code and looks as if that's not possible.

As near as I can tell via testing on 4.4 - Item Inquiry does not work with Alias as the primary data input (I know there is a button for lookup -- however customer wants to scan code). Is there a better / different screen where people do this?

As an aside - I can see why this is designed this way. If customer could scan in an ALIAS and it switched to the regular item - then it would be confusing - may preclude adding a regular item# of the same number as an existing Alias.

We had a client that needed this (scanning the alias item number into inquiry) and they got IM-1236 (pre - 4.4). DSD still has it listed, but there is no download.

I have a client with Item Codes that are one number and Alias Item Codes that are the vendor's number. So, the Item Code = XXX and Alias Item Code = YYY. The barcode on the item = YYY. When the barcode is scanned in Sales Order, the correct item comes into the Sales Order.

Jane - correct, this is standard functionality. The issue is that Inventory Inquiry does not do that.

There is also the detail that multiple item numbers can have the same alias. That pretty much forces looking at a lookup list

Thanks everyone - this is probably one of those situations where a lack of functionality actually makes sense. I could see numerous problems if you scanned the number directly. Too bad there's not a separate standalone Alias Inquiry screen. That seems like it might solve the problem however as Clark said - since you can have multiple similar alias numbers I'm unsure that it would be a complete cure.
