Payroll issue # 2 for today.  client processing direct deposit stubs and getting message "unable to password protect .pdf file" when printing (print, pdf & email).  Printed over a second time same message on different employee. ...  Ran 5th time and error free.  Have to love this stuff (NOT)

I have seen that before and never figured out the issue exactly, but did determine if the user was an administrator (Windows) it would seem to go through.

@John Leonard Seems like it would not be intermittent since all files are going to the same folder at the same time and a different result each time.  But worth checking out.

My guess would be an aggressive anti-virus scan on the PDF folder.  I believe the file is saved, then modified to add the password... and if AV software has just locked the new file for scanning, that could fail.

@Kevin Moyes The IT company did make changes to the environment.  could be anitvirus.  users have also been complaining about the slowness of the whole program since this is a fairly recent upgrade. Maybe it is time-out issues.  Trying to create new file before process to create the previous file is complete?  We should have her run the next payroll on the server directly for the direct deposits.
