Did you know if a check number starts with the letter E in Manual Check Entry and ACH is turned on, it will not go to the Bank Reconciliation. Work around... Turn ACH off or ""don't do that""... No indication there is any intent to modify programing. I felt embarrassed that I did not know (and for the product allowing). https://support.na.sage.com/selfservice/viewdocument.do?noCount=true&externalId=40116&sliceId=1&cmd=displayKC&dialogID=3058&docType=kc&isLoadPublishedVer=&stateId=3059&docTypeID=DT_Article&ViewedDocsListHelper=com.kanisa.apps.common.BaseViewedDocsListHelperImpl

I guess if you crunch those numbers long enough... They could get malformed into a letter?

I didn't even know it would take a letter as part of the check no. @LarryBradford what version ? Why are they using a E as part of the check no?

This client is in 2014. I believe the restriction of letters was loosened a few version ago, like you, I thought this was not an option. They are using the wiring function now. The person that decided he did not need to attend the provided training on the product during last months implementation was just doing what he always did in QuickBooks. (That is, when he was not using his other method of repeatedly using the check number of ""1"" because it was easier to enter that way.) This kind of accounting took away the sting of embarrassment a bit on my part.

Wow manual check no takes anything now.... Learn something new every day ! Oh what a mess this will be when the end users are not paying attention to what they are putting in. You can actually do a date with / in it and it take it - Not Good!

I have customers that start a manual check number with a letter for payments that are not generated with an actual check, like an EFT payment.

I have clients turn on the Wire Transfer Functionality and use the dropdown box. The system then assigns a sequential number starting with a W.

With 2014 they added the option of posting ACH transactions individually to bank Rec in detail. In the past I believe it only posted the total. Maybe that allows a manual check with ""E"" prefix to now be posted to bank rec? I don't have ACH turned on to test. If they are using ACH, and it uses ""E"", they probably should be using a different designation letter.

The client is no longer using the E. Would it not be nice to restrict from using though if it does not go to bank rec (not even in summary). I just put this up here so others did not learn the hard way.
