Did we ever reach a consensus on whether users sti

Did we ever reach a consensus on whether users still have to save their payroll file before the first payroll of 2015 -- even when using Aatrix? I believe the answer to this is yes but I haven't really given it much thought.

Well, if they want any year end reports out of SAGE they will still need the backup.

Technically I believe the answer is no, they don't need to, but I still recommend it. I've run into problems where terminated employees have gotten wiped out during year-end processing and we've had to manually rekey their information into the eFiling grid. In cases where there were a lot of terminated employees, it was much easier to process out of the history company. When doing that, you have to remember to change to the history company to get to the eFiling history if necessary though. Plus, it's payroll so an extra backup can't hurt.

It seems to me that with Aatrix you have to run the reports before it saves the data. Most of my payroll clients tend to put off returns and W-2's. Thus I will continue to recommend that clients save their data before running the 1st payroll in 2015.

Can you print 2014 W-2s while the 2015 TTU is installed?

You can print W-2s while the 2015 TTU is installed but you have to change the FICA maximum back to the 2014 number, print the W-2s and then change it back to the 2015 number. I recommend to my clients that they wait until W-2s are finished b4 installing the TTU because it is to easy to miss a step.

@JaneCavanaugh - even with Aatrix W2 printing you have to change the limit?

Good question. I haven't tried it with Aatrix.

Aatrix uses its own limits. Bottom line - you can install TTU, do first 2015 payroll, and still get accurate 2014 W2s in Aatrix. No need to do it the old way.

Hey, here's the reason for backups - the deductions YTD setup in the PR4 file, NOT In the PR_40, etc files.

Ditto to prior comments. Save to backup.

Always make a backup before closing the year.

Agree with prior comments, our clients create a historical company after the last payroll and copy over the data.
