  • 1.  Did GotoAssist rebranding to Rescue Assist flop?

    Posted 07-29-2021 14:45
I thought  GotoAssist was in the process of being rebranded to Rescue Assist.

It seems like that plan stopped and now I can only find random mentions of Rescue Assist but nothing major on the GotoAssist website.

Did I miss a memo or did the Goto people just change their minds and decide to stay GotoAssist?

Are you thinking of LogMeIn Rescue?

I don’t think so. For a period of time — maybe 3 years ago — I’m pretty sure GoToAssist was announcing Rescue Assist and they were implying that was not only the new name but you’d have to soon use a new client to login to remote sites.

I don’t remember hearing much more and today when I went to look the Rescue Assist brand is mostly wiped from the main site.

    From Wikipedia

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RescueAssist

RescueAssist (formerly GoToAssist) is a cloud-based remote support platform designed targeted at IT support teams and customer support organizations. In 2018, LogMeIn's GoToAssist was rebranded to RescueAssist creating the Rescue brand of support products.

Only I don’t see where this ever happened. I know I was at one time able to use a web based Rescue Assist client. However I didn’t receive any notices to permanently switch and when I go look now RescueAssist is all but gone from the website.

RescueAssist has been rebranded GotoAssist Remote Support v5. I spoke with Logmein about 3 years ago and was told that the Logmein brand would be replacing GotoAssist and that there were no plans to update the GotoAssist product. This was a result of LogMeIn acquiring the Goto products from Citrix in 2017. I was assured that GotoAssist would continue to work, but that I should migrate to the browser based LogMeIn product (ResuceAssist). Well, I didn't do that. GotoAssist worked well for me and I didn't want to change. Fast forward three years, the GotoAssist product is still strong.

If you want to know more, you can read this post https://community.logmein.com/t5/GoToAssist-Remote-Support-v5/Welcome-to-the-GoToAssist-v5-discussion-board/td-p/222584

My opinion is that the Goto brand was strong and the GotoAssist product had a loyal following who choose not to migrate to RescueAssist. LogMeIn Rescue is still available and there is a link to it in the footer of the get.gotoassist.com page.

The remote support software market is still fragmented with many offerings. I don't see that changing in the near future. This is an example of customers choosing not to change the software that works for them, regardless of the marketing and product positioning of publishers.

Thanks that’s exactly what I was looking for.
    So, basically a rebrand of a rebrand…

Yes. I wonder if the former product manager left three envelopes.
