Deleting Log files

  • 1.  Deleting Log files

I am copying Sage to a new server when I noticed that there a boat load of log files in the logfile folder under the MAS_System folder.

Is it ok to simply delete the files via Windows Explorer?  I see the logfile set up in VI options, see no log  index table to worry about.

    TIA

The safest route would be to zip them up and then delete the individual files.  If you find it's a problem, unzip and restore.

Yes, you can delete them.  I have a SQL account that I need to remove these files every 3 months since it never purges and takes up 40 GB of space every 3 months.  I normally leave the latest month of files just in case.

Any idea when this LogFiles folder began to be used?

I just performed a 2018 to 2022 Premium upgrade, and I didn't see MAS_SYSTEM\LogFiles in 2018, but the folder is there in 2022.

My concern is that maybe I need to start monitoring this in 2022, whereas it wasn't an issue in 2018.

Thanks, @Steve Engmann - are there any other SQL/Premium-specific maintenance procedures you've found necessary?

I'm not a SQL/Premium expert.  I'm not sure this is strictly a Premium issue.  It's more related to how many VI jobs are run every day.  This account has automated VI jobs that run many times per day.

My notes show the saved VI job logs were added in v2019.

v2022 Sage added VI options to control these a bit better.

They are safe to delete.  The only place I know they are referenced within Sage is the Activity log, and broken links there are not a big deal.

These VI log files apply to all versions.

SQL log files are something completely different.

I thought the VI log files issue began with v2020.1, but apparently v2019.  It was addressed in v2021 as well as v2020.2.

My client with the humongous folder size is on v2019.  Time to upgrade
