Join us for the Cybersecurity panel at MOTM. Implementing comprehensive cybersecurity measures is essential for protecting your firm and staff from the evolving landscape of cyber threats. Although you hear of cyber incidents occurring in the news with regularity for large companies, including data breaches and ransomware attacks, the relevance to your own smaller firm is actually much closer to home than you think. Protecting yourself comes not only in the traditional forms of workplace security and secure networks, but also in the form of staff training and carrying adequate cyber liability insurance coverage.
We'll discuss several topics that directly impact your firm including:
- Best practices for cyber-resilience to reduce the risk of cyberattack and give you a chance to recover from it. This includes but is not limited to educating staff, securing networks and email, implementing multiple forms of backup, monitoring systems, keeping software up to date, adding MFA, etc.
- Best practices for the consultant and all company staff when using everyday applications like email, web browser, not to mention the remote access software you use to support your clients. Even that has been hacked by clicking on an email phishing link.
- The importance of carrying adequate cyber liability coverage for claims made to your firm either from your direct client or from a client's client (3rd party claim) that was infected with ransomware or similar. It is critical to find out ASAP, well before a cyber incident occurs, whether your business umbrella policy, general liability policy, and/or business owner policy includes cyber coverage. Also review the coverage limits and determine whether it includes 3rd party claims coverage, especially if you're a subcontractor. Carrying an entirely separate Cyber E&O liability policy may be a better option.
