Customers Zebra S4M label printer died yesterday. What is a good replacement. I need to get something today. They need ethernet connectivity and 4"" wide labels. @ToddMartin You mentioned a brand to me at one time and the name escapes me.

The Citizen Printers. https://www.citizen-systems.com/us/products/printer/label/cl-s700/ They have desktop versions as well but this would be something like the one you are replacing.

What is wrong (besides the price) for just getting a zebra printer as the replacement?

We may do that. Keeping an open mind and considering all options. Todd told me once that he learned from a repair person that Citizen was very well made and reliable. @ToddMartin ?

@DougHiggs Correct. I had a customer who serviced these things and they did Zebra, Datamax and some others and this was the one they recommended. I had asked them which one they worked with that had the fewest support/repair issues and was the best value for the money. Without hesitation they recommended the Citizens. The Citizen has a simple straight pass through for the labels, This model allows for both thermal transfer or Direct thermal on the device. It can emulate Zebra ZPL-II and DataMax I-Class, DMX400. The ribbons can be ink side in or out. Clam shell design to get into it and replace the media/ribbon. LCD display so you know what is happening (no wondering what a blinking light stands for). Multiple interface options. Metal Case not plastic. OK you can see I like it. Don't get me wrong Zebra's are great printers too. You can't go wrong either way.
