Customers may start calling and asking about this - I've prepared this quick ""how to"" as well as a link at the very end to an IRS document which explains a little more about what is included, etc.

Has anyone tried importing into the YTD field for the deduction? I just was working with this at a client's site this afternoon. The import errored on the deduction code. This seems like it is simply a problem with the design of the import. I can't remember if I have ever imported into the PR4 file. I tried to assign the deduction code (in this case VM) and it came back as invalid. Hints and suggestions gladly accepted.

I agree with Jeff - you often can't assign key fields. It's lame but true...

As someone pointed out - I believe this reporting is applicable as of now (may change in the future) to employers with 250 or more W2 forms. I always tell people to check with their tax adviser as to whether specific rules/laws apply to them -- this keeps me out of trouble with the customer who does not want to call their CPA and get a bill so they ask me for the rules...and if I'm wrong and they have penalties then guess who is blamed....

Thanks Jeff and Therese. That was part of it I was already trying. I finally had success by adding all of the required fields. So much for trying to shortcut by not adding four simple fields. I was able to assign the values for the four fields other than the code.

Ah, lured into thinking that PR was in the new BF, eh?
