Crystal Reports Parameter question - I know you can import in default parameter values but can you also import in descriptions for them? Customer has a vendor parameter but they use numeric vendor numbers and would like to see the vendor name. TIA.

Yes. In the Parameter setup there is a Description field that can be populated.

Yes, but can you import into the description field? I don't want to manually add ALL of the vendor names.

I haven't tried importing them in Crystal 2011, but had done in prior versions. Have you considered Dynamic values to pull from the Vendor table?

I tested the same, with a text file.

Comma Delimited does not work. I did it with a tab-delimited and the first column became the parameter and the 2nd the desc.

I exported a lookup list of Customer Number and Customer Name. Saved as a MSDOS Text File. Then when setting up the parameter, click on the ACTIONS, then Import. Point to the data file and ""voila"". Be sure the two columns are the only columns or the results are less than optimal.

@ThereseLogeais In the parameter screen select 'Actions'. In there is the import/export options. I usually export a sample to see how the file is laid out.

Do dynamic tables actual work (resolution above was import the information which needs to be refreshed as time goes by) or is speed the issue?

I tried using a dynamic parameter but it kept wanting a login (this was in Crystal). Very odd. Never have had success with them. Speed was an issue way back in the day. Anyone else?

Hmmmm. I bet if you switched it to an Access db with PTQ's, you would eliminate the login prompt!!!! I would be happy to show you the power of PTQ's if you would like. All I can say is that they are **AWESOME**!!!!

When you run a report in Crystal with a dynamic parameter, it does require a login (for each one). However, when you run it in Sage 100, it doesn't require a separate login. Speed is effected a little, not a significant amount. @JeffSchwenk I would love to hear more about PTQ's :)
