Crystal not saving conditional formulas

  • 1.  Crystal not saving conditional formulas

OK, I have this happening at multiple client locations and it's making me crazy (ier).

If I need to conditionally suppress a field and I make a change to the formula and then click Save and Close, or just Save and then manually close, it's not saving.  If you look at the Save icon at the top, it doesn't light up like it does when you've made a change and need to save the whole report.  If I go back into the Conditional, my changes are not there.

Tried running Crystal as admin, still happening.

But I can bring the report back to my machine, make the change, save it - all is well.

This just started happening in the last 6 months, maybe.

If you make another change (like moving a field slightly) do both changes get saved?

@Phil McIntosh - NOTHING else is an issue - it is just this one specific thing that has been causing me to doubt reality.

Oh, and it did it for a client while I was on Teams and talking him through it, so it wasn't just my login.

It is a known issue in Crystal reports version 2020. So are you using version 2020 locally and it is working? There may be a fix or product update but if so, I have not seen it.

My suggestion would be to add the suppression formula and also check the "Suppress" box on the main screen and then save it. Then re-open it and uncheck the Suppress Check box again. Basically, you have to play the game of changing something on the main screen while making the formula edit and saving. Then go back and un-doing your change on the main screen and save again. As far as I know, this only happens with conditional formatting of fields (section conditions work fine)

to clarify, when I say main screen, I'm talking about the formula editor screen

@David Overholt - OMG, I'm weeping - with joy.  It's not just me!  It's not just me!

And hell no, I didn't update my Crystal locally - if it AIN'T BROKE... so true in this case!

Oh, and @David Overholt - thank you also for the work-around - a small price to pay for not having to drag the dang thing back to my machine to fix!

I was told recently about this... and that accessing the formula through the Formula Workshop (instead of the usual way) should work.  (Unconfirmed).

I've had this happen a few times. I can confirm that using the Formula Workshop does work. I've also gotten frustrated and used Crystal 2016 to make my changes before putting it back in the client install. Two work arounds for this silly issue!
