  • 1.  CRM suggestion for a CPA Firm

I have a CPA Firm client asking for a recommendation for a CRM. They are currently using Redtail and last year a feature they use was removed, "...the ability to look up a client and see when their future appt is if it's more than about a month..."

Prior to Redtail they used Office Tools. Her comment was "...we used Office Tools which we really liked, however, they are one of the most expensive."

Client says: "We want a program that can keep track of all our client data and connect it to a calendar.  We want to be able to view a client and see history past and future which we are having trouble with."

    They do not use Sage.

Can anyone recommend a CRM suited to a CPA Firm?

    TIA

Hi Greg - most decent CRM systems will allow for client management and calendaring.

I would step back though before advising they proceed with CRM. My first question would be how big is the firm and the second would be what kind of budget do they have?

Moving beyond that, I would specifically ask them what their goals are for CRM? Do they want to be more responsive to current customers? Market better to find new customers? Improve their sales process or their follow ups to prospects and customers?

What are their "big goals" with CRM?

If they only want great scheduling, I would look at scheduling tools, not CRM. If they want to do more comprehensive "improve responsiveness" or other big picture goals, then it might be worthwhile to investigate CRM solutions.

In general, CRM can have a very powerful impact for CPA firms. My experience is that it only works if they have properly defined goals and have marked someone to lead the initiative internally. Otherwise, it becomes a very expensive rolodex with calendaring.

I hope that helps. I'm always happy to advise further if you want to have a call. My email is pwolf@azamba.com

Let me know how I can help.

I think a good "what do we actually want to improve" conversation is always healthy no matter what comes from it. If it ends up being "we need better scheduling" then that's great - focus on scheduling software. There are plenty of great options for that these days. :)
