Credit Card Processing and SPS: I have a prospect for MAS 200 that is in a risk industry for credit card processing, they have a great relationship with their current processor, and do not want to change. According to the Product Roadmap, as of MAS 200 5.0, the only integrated credit card processing will be through SPS. I understand the reasons why, but believe that this software sale will be lost very quickly due to this restriction. Will I truly have no alternatives, and has anyone else thought encountered this yet?

    Yes, you're reading that correctly.

https://www.termsontime.com/pages/ (Full Disclosure: DSD , who I am a part of, is developing this in some capacity) I went through a demo with Brad Foster - they use a couple processors for their system which is ideally suited for a company that wants to send out PDF invoices to their customers and have the customer pay from a portal. Ultimately my guess is that you also have to use one of their processors. Brad Foster President & Founder West Market, Inc. 877.837.6709 www.termsontime.com Terms on Time that are available are: 4.40 P5 and 4.40 P6. We'll be adding 4.40 P7 and 4.50 P1 shortly. We do not modify base classes. The only standard MAS90 Library we modify is: \AR\AR_Customer.M4L

The problem with Sage , as Erika has publicly stated on LinkedIn is that they will with v5.0 pull the storage of CC info within AR which means in return Sage does not have to undergo PCI Compliant audits. They take issue with being called ""non complaint"" once that occurs and argue that they do not need to be compliant. Instead what they are going to offer as you probably know is Sage Exchange which will store the CC info offline where that offline area is reportedly the only thing subject to PCI audits. I think there are probably going to be a few other companies that come through with credit card integrations though I expect that they will all be forced to store CC info on their own processor as opposed to within MAS as it has been previously.

Thanks for the responses. Those all seem like good justifications that I can probably sell to the prospect with regard to SPS. The prospect is very concerned about security, so this should convince him.

@JohnHoyt - not sure what you mean by risk industry, but a heads up that in in the past we ran into a couple of high risk industries that SPS would not engage in. One was the adult movies and paraphenalia business. May have changed policies but worth checking.

@MikeFitzgerald This is related to firearms, and I have reviewed the restricted and prohibited list, so they may not qualify anyway. Dexter has been able to get approval for our adult video clients, so perhaps he can work magic here too. Thanks.

We also had one declined for the organic products industry....

We have had one declined in the home repair and glass repair industries. The company gets leads via the web and matches them to a contractor local to the customer. FWIW, They are also using Randy Marion's (Martin & Assoc) ACH complete for some contractors. It has worked well for them.

@ThereseLogeais is that code for medical marijuana...? This issue will only continue growing as Sage forces use of SPS.

Ha, no. It's an organic health and beauty product manufacturer.

We had one declined because of being in the ""gambling"" industry. (They sell scratch-offs and tab type products that they brand as ""coupons"" but it's all still gambling.)

So, if a prospect buys MAS 90... then in a couple years decides to accept credit cards but gets declined by SPS, are they supposed to look for another accounting system?

Just wait till you see what happens to the rates once SPS doesn't have to be competitive anymore...

I will be working with Erika on what can and cannot be accomplished, so I hope there are some options.

  • 16.  RE: Credit Card Processing and SPS: I have a prospect

    Posted 01-20-2012 15:34
Swiped rates are competitive. If only you could get them using MAS 90. Keyed rates are much higher. One of my clients went from swiped rates with external machine to integrated approach with MAS 90 and SPS. Their merchant fees doubled for this ""convenience"". Plus Sage was worthless when trying to source a card reader for MAS.

  • 17.  RE: Credit Card Processing and SPS: I have a prospect

    Posted 01-20-2012 16:29
According to my SPS contact, they are working on swiped rates.

  • 18.  RE: Credit Card Processing and SPS: I have a prospect

    Posted 01-21-2012 11:33
SPS isn't the issue with swiped rates. The issue is with the MAS credit card module not recognizing the fact that the card was swiped. So if you are using MAS in a POS environment (works very well in a tire retail situation), the best you can get is the keyed rate.

    Posted 01-21-2012 13:00
What I meant was that when they go with Sage Exchange, you may be able to capture it as swiped. (At least that's my understanding.)

    Posted 01-21-2012 15:24
Oh. My bad! It would make sense to make the changes at that point as they have to rewrite the CC and AR modules. Not sure why they don't just incorporate CC into AR and stop the whammy (charging for the CC module).

  • 21.  RE: Credit Card Processing and SPS: I have a prospect

    Posted 01-21-2012 15:42
Isn't it free with SPS? At least that's my recollection...

  • 22.  RE: Credit Card Processing and SPS: I have a prospect

    Posted 01-21-2012 16:19
I believe at first they offered CC (embedded) as an on again / off again promo. Sometimes you paid. More often you didn't. You always paid maintenance. Then they progressed to you just paying maintenance - but only after approval by SPS and you faxed the order desk a bunch of info. Finally they got wise and internally tracked approvals, gave the integrated CC for free (even no maintenance first year). I believe Sage still collects year two maintenance since in most cases the customer may not notice and if they do the partner takes the initial heat.

We have a customer who wanted to switch to SPS from PC Charge so submitted the application, etc. to SPS, was approved, we turned it on, etc. Then Sage calls them trying to sell them SPS - apparently, we were supposed to ""order"" it from Sage (even though there was no fee for them since they already had CC w/PC Chg). Crazy the hoops you have to keep track of/jump through...

    Posted 01-21-2012 16:27
Do you remember a couple of years ago at what was then Insights, Sage's theme was one call/contact for all concerns, trying to keep things simple. Can't wait for that day.....

    Where is Dexter located, Idaho?

Be aware there are some other SPS salespeople also who contact clients at times. Since I always deal with Dexter Cube, I just contact him about these, and I guess he beats them up.

There is now an SPS salesperson in Detroit Lakes, MN (I'm in Mpls, MN) and he contacted me and switched our acct to him. Just met him last Tuesday. Kind of nice to have a local contact....

Okay, somewhat local. Detroit Lakes is probably 3 hrs from Mpls.

Not sure what the sales structure is, and frankly, don't particularly care as long as I have someone I can consistently deal with. As long as you feel comfortable with your local person, then that's great. Unfortunately, I get the impression that the credit card processing industry is similar to the wireless industry - lots of sleazy characters!

That's what he said! One of my customers was quoted rates that are ""below cost"" from another processor accordiing to this SPS guy. He said they may honor it for a month or two then WHAM! New rates!

This thread if from back in January, any updates? , I now have 2 clients that want to process CC from within MAS200 but cannot do so because of SPS. (one just signed a 3 year contract before they purchaased MAS200 the other is one of the ""RISK"" category companies. Has anyone come across a 3rd part solution?

There is a Sage online webinar 3/21 about Sage Exchange where reportedly there will be Q&A - I'd forward the URL but it looks to be person specific
