  • 1.  Creating copy of Company

    Client company is being sold.  New owners want a new company set up keeping history for all modules but would like to reset the GL.  Anyone have a best practice for doing this?

    I was thinking about copying all modules to new company, then reinitializing the GL posting history table.  Then rebuilding the GL balance (should zero everything.  New owners can then key a beginning balance JE for new company.  Downside is that all modules that have history with JE drill down fields will no longer be able to drill down.

    This is an oversimplification but want to determine is this is the optimal path.

    Jeff,

    That seems like a creative way to accomplish that as long as they don't mind not being able to drill down to the GL for prior postings in other modules.

    If they "need" that, I think the only other option is to copy everything, print the trial balance and import or manually enter one JE that reverses all balances effectively setting all account balances to zero.

    I have done this for new companies where they wanted all the history except GL by making a copy of the new company's CI and GL, then copying from the old company, then reinitialize and replace, and it worked out well.  Your plan should work!
