  • 1.  Copying Companies\Business Insight module

    I have customer that is currently running Sage 2016 Adv. When copying a backup or live company the process never finishes and get stuck on the business insights module. Sage Support recommended to upgrade the customer since they are on a non supported version. I have tried the suggestions they have in the knowledge base. The copy process will run for several hours and never generate an error or display anything in the activity log. I must run end task to get the copy process to stop. I tried copying a company without the business insights module and copied a backup into a new company code and still stuck on copying the business insight module. I have had the It group disable the anti-virus program from the workstation and the server when I tried the process. The only change recently to their environment was editing the EDI import from True Commerce. Any suggestions on what I can try next or look at to see if another module could be the cause?

    I think you may want to let it run (overnight ?)

    There is often a long pause here - perhaps to do with updating the credit card vault...

    Good suggestion, I will try running it over night. I did update the SPS software on the server in hopes that it would fix the issue but it did not.

    If you uncheck the BI Module, does it copy? I have run into this several times before, and find that if I uncheck it it runs successfully and I just export the BI Views using Custom Office Exporter (Usually they don't need BI views in a backup/test company and it's more peace of mind).

    No, the copy doesn't complete when I uncheck the BI module. I tried coping different companies into a new test company with the option unchecked and it still tries to copy the BI module.

    I wonder if it tries to "complete" the report before copying? - maybe open an explore view and check to see what the Row Limitation is? I have several customers that set it to 1,000,000 or something crazy like that and it takes hours to populate the report.

    There was a recent post on Sage City about this. I got yelled at :) for suggesting the end task option. Truth is, I have a customer that copies companies almost daily. Small companies and no credit cards. The copying almost always runs forever. They used to be on 2015 but the issue remains after we upgraded to 2018. When I open File Explorer I can see that the copying is completed. The folder sizes are exactly the same and no files are being updated (based on date/time modified). I left it over a weekend once and still nothing. I really don't know why it will sometimes complete but on most it will not. Now, I'm not recommending the end task but just saying....

    I have experienced this before for some clients and I'm experiencing this right now as I write this. BI is unchecked. Unless I kill the task it will never complete (we've let it run over a weekend). I find that if it doesn't complete at a client's site, it never will. It's never intermittent within one installation.

    The resolution was the customer had too many credit card numbers (7,200 records) on file for AR_Customercreditcard.M4T. I ran the clear history and expired credit card utility under the AR module.  Rebuilt the AR_Customercreditcard.M4T file in rebuild key files. The customer was not using SPS program to process cards in Sage 100 but was storing the credit cards under customer maintenance. I was then able to successfully make a company backup with the business insights module included. I appreciate everyone's help!
