  • 1.  Copy Sage 100 Premium from one server to another

    I have a customer where I performed a Premium upgrade to v2019.

They created a "Test" server for the testing of the initial upgrade.
This test server was left in place for future testing.

When ready, they created a new production server and we reinstalled premium here and did the final upgrade.

Each install uses a separate SQL server
They have two separate installs of Sage 100 Premium - both were identical at the go-live ( two to three months ago )

Now they want to refresh data on their test server.

Can I just copy the SQL tables for MAS_SYSTEM and all the MAS_XXX companies to the test server and have it be up to date? I haven't added any UDF or any other enhancements since go live.

Or should I copy other \MAS90 folders as well and if so which ones?

I'd prefer not to re-migrate because to do so I have to kick off corporate accounting and/or requisition IT for an overnight. This is a sophisticated IT environment so not as easy as me doing the whole thing after-hours ( which I would do in most other cases).

    TIA for any feedback.

Theorizing here as I have not done this:
There is some data in ProvideX files - it is not all in SQL.  I don't seem to have a list...but maybe Sage support could provide one?
Are the paths on each server identical except for the server name?
Is the test server a VM?  If so back up the entire server VM before doing this so you have a fallback plan if it doesn't work.
Restore a backup of MAS_System and MAS_XXX from production to the test server.
Before starting Sage 100 on the test server, run the SQL Settings utility to make sure the test Sage still points to the test SQL instance.
If anything looks out of whack, copy over the MAS90 directory less the uninstall folder from production to test.
Run the SQL Settings Utility again and test.

Worst case, you restore the VM from backup and schedule a migration.

I would think you can just copy the MAS_XXX company folders from Prod to Test and take SQL backups of those and do SQL restores of Test.  It's the MAS_SYSTEM database and folder that I'm really not sure about so I'd tread lightly there (and backup the TEST environment before trying).

Copying MAS_XXX databases and folders should be safe.  Be careful with anything at the system level because there are paths and the reference to the SQL instance in there somewhere.
For anything more than the company data, I'd do the full migration to be safest.
