Has anyone converted Sage 50 to Sage 100?  If yes, is it a lot of work?  Can information be easily exported from Sage 50 to import into Sage 100?

I have done it, but not in a while.  Master files not too bad, transactions can be difficult.  Sage 50, like QuickBooks, actual data structure is one big checkbook table with many different flags added for different records types.  Best to stick with what you can get from the UI out to Excel.

I believe Graytrix offers a conversion service as well.  Not that I have ever used it.

Thank you @Greg Stiles, @Wayne Schulz, @Larry Bradford and @Phil McIntosh.  This is very helpful.  I was hoping it was somewhat like a QB conversion.

    Haven't done Sage 50.
Whatever you do don't promise to convert history.
If the customer is really hot to convert every last bit of history then offload them to someone like a Greytrix ( who I don't have any experience with). Let the agreement be between Greytrix and your customer and stay out of the middle. Converting detailed history is pretty tough because there are probably a bunch of odd transactions and you'd be doing the conversion on a presumably tight schedule to go live.

Believe it or not I have done the same client both directions! First from Peachtree to Sage and then back to Peachtree when they decided Sage was "too hard". Translation: "why cant we just change stuff after posting?"

Peachtree has good export templates already defined for all areas. I exported masterfiles and transactions (recent date ranges) and imported to Sage pretty easily.

We've done several.  Take notice of whether jobs and job phases etc. are in use.  We seldom convert history outside of GL.
Some things Sage 50 users miss when they move to Sage 100 are:
A whole invoice is visible at one time in the Sage 50 entry screen.
They are accustomed to drilling down in invoices.
Most users don't have entry and posting as two steps, let alone a 3rd for the DTR.
It's super easy to email an invoice from an entry screen.
    Bank rec is very simple.
Re-occuring trx get posted all at once to the various periods, and if you change one, it asks if you want to change the ones after it.
    But on the plus side:
Sage 50 is fragile.  it crashes if you breath heavily on it. :-P
    It integrates with almost nothing.
No data validation or hardcoding of fields during imports.
Custom fields are not something you can pass from a transaction through to history to the GL.
All that simplicity exists at the expense of functionality
