Converting our large 100-user MAS 200 client system this weekend from 4.10 to 4.40. Began on Friday night and the data conversion is still running. 45 hours now and counting.

It appears that inventory took 36.7 hours of the conversion time.

Same story for me 2 weeks ago doing a test upgrade from 4.05 and others here too. Using this as a basis to persuade client to purge all but last 4 years of their Inventory for their live upgrade. Like the 4.40 PU2 A/P conversion program that @JeffSchwenk client was affected by, the IM Conversion program even in PU5 is inefficient as it makes multiples passes to create the new history files and doesn't take advantage of pvx memory files. I'm sure they didn't use a sizable data set when testing.

The total time ended up being 54.5 hours.

This needs to be brought up at Summit. Clients like to have history and many don't want to delete what has built up over the years, especially now that HD space is so cheap. I am willing to give them ""some"" slack on the AP oversight but inventory is a compelely different animal.

I was watching the files convert, and it appears to create a new temp file then take data from an original file and put it into the new temp file. Perhaps this is how it segments the files? This customer did have several files that had to be segmented. And part of the 54.5 hours was needing to rebuild AR_InvoiceHistoryHeader and SO_SalesOrderHistoryDetail as those two files had bad records in them. So we would actually subtract about an hour or so for that bit. But still. Seriously, that's a LONG data conversion!

Some of the issues that I have found with the time it takes is when customers have history that was in Past or future dates. I just did a conversion and it took over 10 hours for 6 gb of data. The reason I believe was related to an entry that was done in 786. The year 786.So balances for the inventory item was created from 786 to 2011. I have not verified this was the reason.

Wow, I can see this as a compelling reason to do some type of purge. If you want to keep 15 years worth of data, run the purge through 1996. It may only wipe out one record, but in Todd's case, it would have been worth it.

I was around in 786, MAS 90 was relatively new :)

I checked the inventory today, and it only went back to 2002. No weird old years.
