  • 1.  Conflicts Expanding Customer Number?

    Are there any known conflicts with third parties (Avalara, etc) from expanding the Sage Customer number from 7 to 20 characters?

    I’m pretty sure there aren’t but a customer is asking.

    Haven't heard of any and the expanding customer number feature been around for while in Sage 100

    I had one with ACS's WOEP.  When the client was creating work orders from Sales Order Entry, it was using the 7 digits.  The client had customer numbers like CUSTOMX and then CUSTOMX-MI, CUSTOMX-IL, CUSTOMX-IN, etc.  So it JUST SO HAPPENED that there was a 7 character version of the longer customer numbers.

    Anyway, Ron fixed it and all is well now, but it was an issue for a while in 2018.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Turns out they want to expand the customer number ( easy ) and also renumber some of their customer accounts.

    They are using AVATAX and CertCapture and I'm wondering if this renumbering will cause issues with Avalara?

    We just had some miscommunication over customer numbers in a new Avatax implementation between customer and Avalara. Avatax definitely relies on Sage Customer number, including Div prefix. So they need to renumber in both places.

    This customer is using Certcapture so I'm definitely thinking there must be some work involved to change the numbers that Avalara is tracking. I advised they open a support case with Avalara to get the answer.

    Our customer's problem was first with CertCapture. So, yes, they will need to change the customer codes on the Avalara side. 
    Does anybody use AvaTax without also using CertCapture?
