  • 1.  Membership Committees 2.0

    Posted 06-08-2022 13:43
    Hello Board

I am starting this thread to get a few more ideas to add to our new membership committee.   We did not have time yesterday - so this works great too!

Here are some basic new descriptions for your consideration and comments.  I am dividing and conquering a little bit differently.  See below for my recommendations so far:

Consultant Membership Committee which will be the main membership committee.  This should be a consultant-only committee with no connections to ISV or Affiliate Sponsors (we can discuss this as needed).  As a membership committee member, here are my initial list of duties to share

The Duties & Responsibilities of the Membership Committee include:

    • Attend and participate in 80% of all monthly committee meetings (all on Zoom).
    • Provide input/suggestions to expand/ improve services and add value to membership.
    • Provide input and consideration to new member applications.
    • Provide input/suggestions on how to increase membership to further support 90 Minds initiatives.
    • Work with Executive Director and Board in assisting with membership issues or initiatives.
    • When attending Meeting of the Minds, support and promote membership involvement.
    • Be able to answer questions regarding 90 Minds' mission, vision and structure.
    • Actively recruit new members and promote and encourage participation in Meeting of the Minds.
    • Assess membership needs through instruments such as surveys and questionnaires or other methods suggested by the Board, and communicate the member's needs to the Board.

Here are the two members I have started a conversation with (at MOTM) and would like some additional ideas.

    1.  Eric Anderson (m)
    2.  Madeline Stefano (y)

Please post any consultants you think would be great on this committee and discuss outreach.

Affiliates/Corporate Sponsor Committee (I would like this committee to rename itself)

I have another unique idea as it relates to our sponsor members.  I would like to make this more of a quarterly meeting with very specific goals and discussions around membership and sponsorship.  This group can also assist with new ISV ideas (hoping for diversity), ideas to grow, and support sponsor benefits (which pretty much are mostly related to the conference and ongoing webinars, etc.).  I think this group could also have the potential for a lot of new ideas to connect.   So in addition to outreach and input on new corporate sponsor members, this group would be as follows:

Focused on the development and implementation of:

    • Meeting of the Minds
    • Webinars
    • Contests
    • Social/digital media
    • Networking events
    • Lunch and learns
    • Newsletters
    • Educational opportunities
    • Annual or quarterly product launches
    • Tournaments
    • Discount programs for services such as insurance

    IDEAS:

    • One member of each sponsor invited to participate
    • Sponsor Summit:  Once a Year Brainstorming Session for all Corporate Sponsors contacts.

Right now, I have the following members

    1.  Darcy Boerio
    2.  Nicole Ronchetti

I propose we add the current events committee and combine this group.  That committee also includes Darcy at times, as well as Ammah Billington from Repay and at some point Patty Benitez from Fortis.   I can have them assist me with engagement, involvement, ideas of who to include, etc.

But I really would love to get board comments, thoughts, and opinions on this now - so that I can get these going.

Let me know what you think

    Thanks - Anne

I also would like to consider Gary Feldman as a possible liaison between the two but I need to make sure he is ok.

I think the idea of two separate groups is a great idea. The consultant members have different needs than the affiliate members. I would see if Kevin Moyes would like to participate in the consultant membership group. With his connections to Sage City he may be aware of other consultants who should be members and are not.

Several thoughts about the Consultant Committee and 1 on the ISV/Affiliates Committee. Sorry for the length!! Banish as you see fit.

    • The Consultant Committee is an awesome idea!
    • The bullets for committee development and implementation are xlnt!
    • Yes to Madeline and Eric and definitely yes to add Kevin Moyes. Even w/o his connections to Sage City, he would be valuable.
    • I imagine we'll discuss later this month but I'd like to know at some point how much membership (as number or pct) are we looking to grow, so we have a target / milestone.
    • (A dumb ? what is the current annual fee for the non-OG members and do we expect to keep it the same for coming dues? The reason for asking is someone else besides Kevin you know works with a lot of VARs and has in past years recruited many members (just for his love of the organization :-) )
    • Add "Consultant Lunch and Learns" (different from the Affiliate Committee version). A good value add that we used to have more often were the Tips and Tricks webinars (more often done as MotM sessions). E.g.
      • Bank Feeds by Bob Pfahnl
      • Intro to Visual CUT by Kevin Moyes
      • A few things Alnoor has done in past not involving Scripting.
      • With my own consultant hat on, and things done as breakout sessions in past MotMs:
        •  Advanced Tips and Tricks for Crystal Reports (perhaps by Dan Burleson)
        • Using Pivot Tables in Excel (perhaps by BertoWud or Dan Burleson)
        •  Advanced Tips and Tricks for Visual Integrator
        • Sage 100 Premium tips and tricks
        • Manufacturing tips and tricks or How-To's (perhaps by the amazing Madeline Stefanou)
      • The one danger in all this is not everyone's a good presenter but I have an idea to mitigate that. That happened in a particular MotM session. Great content but disorganized.
Having a consultant-only committee with the requirements of no connections to ISV or Affiliates can be a tricky bizness.
    Good example is DSD. They:
    • Are an ISV and sponsor (their affiliate presentations done by developers we know and like, Jon Reiter and Joe DeMaria)
    • Have several consultants (incl Eric Anderson and our beloved Jim W)
    • Has several 90M resellers who are DSD partner firms (e.g. "DSD Business Systems dba Schultz Consulting"). I believe the pay their own memberships.
    • Should the qualification be based on the member's role in their company instead of the company itself?? I wouldn't want to exclude Eric and Jim W just b/c DSD itself is an ISV.
One important concern about the Affiliates/Corporate Sponsor Committee
We sort of discussed this on the Sunday brunch at Cucina Enoteca at one end of the table. Nicole R who heads up acu-connect, an Acumatica equivalent of our community, has on her board an affiliate member who is the VP but is a non-contributor, has no value or input, doesn't get along with the others, irritates the membership, and is in it for himself and his company. She talked about how they will need to change their own by-laws just to get this guy off the board. Well that guy, that company is a 90M affiliate too. Both Jim W and I at least, personally detest this vulgar guy, who has no character, is truly a total faker, and would be a troublemaker to us if in a committee. Sorry for being too candid but I speak the truth!

Darcy and Nicole are amazing, generous, and would be great additions. Patty B too. Many of us have worked with them and agree. These people are keepers. But let's come up with a way of (dis)qualifying applicants so we can keep bad apples out, (while still accepting their sponsorship money).
