Commercial Nursery Customer We have a nursery customer that deals primarily with landscapers. The nursery property is mostly open to the elements and is about 20 acres. The current process is that salespeople accompany the customers around the compound and load plants on carts and later at a central location the items are entered into Sage 100 and payment is made. We are planning the automation of that process using Scanco Mobility/Scanco Sales. This appears to be a good solution, and so far we have dealt with the wifi vs. mobile cell communications, plastic bar code labels, and the general work flow. Has anyone had a similar customer, preferably an outdoor nursery, where they have automated this, and could share some of the challenges and general procedures and controls required? tia

I had a nursery client at one time where I spent tons of time trying to get them to use MAS 90 in a smarter more efficient manner. Then they sent their bookkeeper to jail for stealing $500K and suddenly didn't have any money to invest in time and money saving solutions. Their solution was to drop MAS 90 and go to QuickBooks. I have not heard if anyone else has been jailed for stealing large sums of money..... If you have figured out how to use the bar code labels that come with the plants or are printed and wrapped around the tree branch, you are well on your way. And more importantly, if you have determined the people are ready to make a change. That was the one constant I always encountered with my client, no one wanted to change.

I had a produce distributor and the challenge was (a) speed at which inventory came in and out (couldn't get it into the system before it was sold) and (b) spoilage (which was nearly constant). I think they gave up and I'm not sure what package they went to. This was a sale through their accountant who was the one who was sure Sage would work. Produce inventory might be a little easier to get a handle on re: COGS since the customer was mostly buying produce and reselling (as opposed to growing).

@JohnHoyt Practical Software Solutions, not 90 Minds members, are big in the nursery space. Someone over there could probably help you. I know their marketing person, Amanda, pretty well and she could probably connect you with one of their people.
