Just upgraded customer fromSage Adv v2104 to v2019. They had C/S ODBC Driver installed in v2014. Do I need to install again in v2019? I dont see the benefit...since most users are connected locally. What would the real benefit be? In the instructions they said about sime processes needed to be ru everytine you start the server and/or application..... i am trying to minimize additional processes if possible

I usually run it as a service - similar to how the Sage service is run. It will auto start on reboot.

I’ve primarily used this when a customer has a slower connection. For example, sometimes using Advanced over WiFi and complaining about slow reporting.

I too wonder that but I always uninstall the old service and reinstall from the current installation location.  Doesn't take very much time to do complete.  I also install as a service using the same user running the ADV service.  I only enable for the "power" users and I also use a batch file in Windows scheduler to restart the service every night.  To my knowledge, the memory leak still hasn't been fixed causing the "power" users to suddenly not be able to print reports.  Also if the enabled users run ODBC queries in Excel, the driver will speed those queries..

Lourdes, along the lines of what @Jeff Schwenk says, I have these notes in my upgrade checklist.  Something we ran into one upgrade.
    1. If old Sage and new Sage are on the same server, and client uses the C/S ODBC (a.k.a. Providex IO), you must uninstall the Providex IO service in OLD Sage.. Start / Run / location of Sage\location of providex service  and "-u" to uninstall. \[OLD install of Sage – 4.0, 4.1 or 4.2]  .
    1. Ex: C:\mas200\Mas41\Mas90\home\lib\_appserv\csodbcservice.exe –u.
    2. Immediately following the uinstall of the service, reboot the server. This ensures the service fully removes from the server.
    • Install the ODBC driver from Mas90\pvxiosvr.exe. To make it run as a service, go to file run on the server, type \\servername\sharename\Mas90\home\pvxiosvr.exe -i
    1. Go to the service and make it 'Automatic' – might need admin login. Set the service to run under the same account Sage runs under and make sure to start the service.
    2. If the client has users accessing Sage through VPN, under File, Register – enable the ODBC driver to run on the server. Make sure all remote users under User Maintenance are updated to use this driver. Please refer to page 63 in the Sage 100 Advanced Installation Guide for instructions. This is found in documentation section of the install.

My two cents on @Rhonda McNamara post.

Install the ODBC driver from Mas90\pvxiosvr.exe. To make it run as a service, go to file run on the server, type \\servername\sharename\Mas90\home\pvxiosvr.exe -i

It has been my experience to use a local path to the pvixiosvr.xed when installing the service.  Using a UNC path has caused issues in the past so I now use the local path exclusively. The attached KB is the basis for this comment.
