Client updated payroll, then encountered an out of balance error during the DTR update. 59 page PDF for a 99 cent OOB. Go figure!!!! Does anyone have an easier way of fixing the DTR other than DFDM? What am I missing? To me, this issue has been around since the dawn of MAS 90 and I am AMAZED (read with sarcasm) that there isn't an easier way. But maybe I'm not seeing the forest for the trees..............

    Ever tried a one-sided journal-entry via GL?

Let it post and correct with one sided entry.

In this situation, it won't post because there is no account number. I do the one sided JE with regularity (unfortunately). In the old days, you could just change/add the account number/key in DFDM, but know you have to change the sequence key. Doable, but just a pain in the side.

On our own payroll (4.40), we get this error (missing GL account) or a straight OB almost every cycle when accruals are pro-rated. For the OB, we have to manually calculate every number in the JE to fix the OB. Very frustrating.

The issue with the missing account number turned out to be an earnings code that was subject to FUTA tax but the departmental record did not have a GL number for. Since client is not subject to FUTA, we deselected that earnings code field for future PR. Perhaps this may be a reason that your PR is missing account #. Regarding the PR accrual, I don't recommend that because the liabilities are handled properly and it makes reconciling the 941/unemployment wages at quarter end painful.

And the lightbulb just went off for missing account #'s in the DTR. Just delete the line entirely, then update the DTR follow it with a one sided JE to fix it. A little simpler than figuring out the account key and the next sequence number...........
