Client running SAGE 100 STD on a Windows network and just received the message ""Cannot Open Activation Key File - No Valid Activation Found"". Looked in the ..\Mas90\Home\Lib\Keys directory and the Activate.pvx file is missing. In its place are three files. One is a text document and two have email address at the beginning of the file name. I'm guessing a ransomware/crypto virus. IT is working on shutting down/removing the virus. As far as SAGE 100 is concerned... Should we restore all of SAGE 100 (programs and data) from last night's backup or can we just restore the missing Activate.pvx file?

Hi - there are different variants of the crypto virus - but it is normally better to restore the whole mas90 folder.... you should NOT overwrite - make copies of the mas90 folder, and rename it before you restore, in case the backup is not valid - leaves you the option of paying the ransom if you need to. Good luck....

Wow! That depends. Most often it is not just that one file that is infected. Usually your paperless files (PDF's) are trashed. Personally, i would restore everything; but not until they have finished ""cleaning"" and quarantining the problem and the source.

Have you looked elsewhere in the MAS90 directory for remnants of the virus? Is the directory size the same as last nights taking into account 1 missing, 3 added files? I would be safe and restore completely.

Ran into this three months ago. Did a full server restore. It is the only way to make sure the malware is removed. In that case it was a workstation that infected the servers, but the IT provided recommended a complete restore as the safest most effective way to deal with the ransomware.

I saw this last year with a customer. Definitely restore to last known good backup unless you know for sure which files are affected! My customer tried a short cut to save a large posting and ended up having to go back to the last known good backup anyway so they wasted even more time.

I agree - full restore of the MAS90 folder after you RENAME the existing folder.
