Client on 4.4 SU6, VI import into SO lines. Item unit cost appears correctly on the SO, appears correctly on the Invoice, but when posted, cost disappears during update process. So costs are understated. Any ideas?

What is the valuation method of the items? What is the cost in inventory?

Seems as though MAS is having a problem grabbing the cost to post. Which valuation methods are involved?

I believe Average Cost for all items, but am confirming. Costs do exist for all items @RobertaFerguson. @BrettLyder , that is what I'm thinking, but the system displays correctly, only when updating do things fall apart and ONLY on the imported SOs. Manually entered orders are not impacted.

Are these drop ship items? That would change the cost.

Nope @DianaLaughner all std SOs which should pull costs. Just received call from client confirming Avg Cost. But he also added a new piece to the puzzle. They modified the VI job by adding a one line. Purpose is to ""explode kits"". Since that change, it doesn't appear to be pulling the item correctly for updates. As noted, they appear correctly on the SO and subsequent Invoice, but are not there when updated.

Deb when an item is put on an order manually or imported it pulls the ""current"" item cost. But I think when you update it re-pulls the cost, that is obviously where the breakdown is occuring. Have you confirmed the valuation method yet?

Is it taking the kit components out of stock at the correct cost?

Are you importing a cost to the kit item on the order? If you do and then MAS explodes the kit into it's components I wonder what it does with that cost on the main kit item. The original kit item doesn't really post a cost, just the components, right?

Most of the imported items are standard items, not kits (well...may be 50/50). However, they found that they'd forgotten to have the kits explode, so they added the line for that to happen. They are not importing cost, but rather letting the system pull the item cost.

    So is all well now?

No Jeff, the costs are not posting...my last post provided answers to previous questions. I had them pull the line referencing kits and re-run the import and updates and everything worked. Now I have him putting the line back in and testing a kit only SO import to see if that works. My suspicion is that it will, but then, when a standard line is imported, it doesn't work because for some reason it's thinking that there should be a kit and since there isn't, no costs are posted. Make sense?

Maybe add a temp field pulling the item type then using that to conditionally suppress the line for non-kit items??

No, they want to be able to import both standard items as well as kit items (and have the kit item explode) as both are ordered by the Customer. Both Item types can and do appear on the same SO.

Yes, but you may be able to set up the import to only explode a line if it is a Kit item type. (I should refer you to @JeffSchwenk who helped me set something similar up on a horrible SO import!)

Does it behave differently if the items are set to Explode Always? Not sure if that is an option for you or if it makes any difference.

It was the Item Kit type causing the problem. They added the additional statement to only explode kit types and voila! All is good. Thanks again to the wonderful 90Minds!
