Client is considering upgrading to 2016, but their MS Office is at level 2007. Integrated Solutions Matrix for 2016 states compatibility with Office 2016, 2013, 2010. What would be affected if they don't upgrade Office? Explorer perhaps? What about exporting ALE's? Any ideas?

I was going to say ALE export. No matter what version of Excel I've used it never seems compatible with VI so I always use CSV.
