Client is a CPA firm and I believe a member of the Accountants Network. They received a call from Sage indicating their renewal/subscription was expiring and without renewal, their Sage product (and any clients that purchased from them) would become 'read only'. I called Sage and received a copy of the quote for the subscription, but how can they make the software 'read only'? What if customer doesn't have internet on the Sage server? Is this subscription (for 1 year) a new thing? My contact at client didn't recall ever seeing this before. When I called Sage back using the extension they gave me, conveniently the rep was gone for the day (it was only 10 mn later) and another rep answered and it certainly sounded like a call center that normally I would be leery of. Much less they seemed to push that I should get the renewal done and pay with a credit card. Is this legit?

Reminds me of Time-Warner Cable - their reps lie to customers all the time.

Nancy what product is this for? You should also make sure it's not part of this scam which I thought was primarily overseas. http://www.spamfighter.com/News-19043-Scam-Emails-Emulating-Sage-are-Currently-Going-around-the-Internet.htm

Sounds hokey to me. Call Sage directly. Does the client know when their plans actually expire?? One of the problems with the Accountants Network is that we are kept out of the communication loop and usually the ""Let's contact our reseller"" for technical assistance so I can see that confusion can occur.

Wow, the part that really impresses me is ""and any clients that purchased from them"". Even if the client is current on their renewal, right? What a bunch of hooey.

Wondering if this is a SageOne renewal vs an ERP ?

I did call Sage direct this morning, punched in the extension to see if I actually received the same person and I did (then hung up!). Spoke with client and I think this is on the up and up. They found an old invoice from last year too. Would be interesting to see if they really can make the software 'read only' but client decided not to incur the add'l $100 cost. Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. I feel better for having my radar go off on this.

Nancy I'd love to know what software this was for and how the CPA clients were able to buy through them. Was this a Sage One type solution which Sage sells as the CPA being able to login and review their client data?

It's just Standard MAS90. Client doesn't even sell to their clients (Sage rep mentioned that Client's customer installations would become read only). The one customer they have on MAS90 doesn't own a copy of MAS90. The quote for the renewal says 'San Sage 100 Std ERP' and it's cheap - $499 with unlimited support (GL/AR/AP/BR)

So I guess the implication by Sage is that the SAN (Sage Accountant Network) versions of Sage 100 are operating with expiring registration keys which will turn the data to read-only.

That's what they are claiming will happen. This expiration was 6/21 and evidently at end of June, there is a 'sweep' of keys vs registrations and they make the unrenewed (?) keys inactive and software becomes 'read only'. Would be fun to see this happen and if they can really do it!!
