Client got a new computer. They are still printing pinfed printer AP checks. Finally got everything setup correctly again last night and they printed fine. This morning, printed goofy. But then she did a Reprint and they printed OK. Rebooted her computer - same thing. First time through, prints wrong, reprint prints OK. ?????????

New computer using an old pinfed printer oh boy. Does the Align button still appear when you print checks? Maybe choose that first then Print. This way you only lose 1 check. Just a thought.

I'm @AlnoorCassim, Oh Boy! I'd guess it's a driver issue. What kind of printer, does it emulate an IBM or Epson? Sometimes using the driver of the printer it's emulating actually works better.

Guess we won't preach to the choir....... Type of printer is sometimes important as Brett mentions. OKI's are great, but have been bitchy lately. Emulation is important. In the old Novell world, I used to power off the printer before printing checks to clear the print buffer of condensed checks. Are you printing graphicaql or non graphical? Pennywise and pound foolish......

Clinet is on 4.4 It's an OKI and I'm just curious as to why it prints wrong first time, then right when you do a reprint. Obviously the driver, etc doesn't change between printings.

Try turning it off before printing to clear the buffer. Or maybe printing wrong the first time resets the buffer.

Don't shoot me but I think it is a driver issue. OKIs always have multiple identities. It sounds like the emulation mode on the printer itself when it's powered on doesn't match the driver but when something is printed to it, it changes after that. You could: 1. Press the emulation mode button right on the printer itself - but only some of them had such a button (click it and displays ""Now I'm an OKI"", click it ""Now I'm a IBM Proprinter"" etc). 2. Try the Windows Generic Text driver instead of OKI driver 3. Use the old Device Configurator

I disagee with the Wise Alnoor (may the gods not cut my tongue out for speaking such blashemy........) If it were a driver mixup (OKI, IBM and Epson), it would always print wierd. The last time I wrestled with this gator, OKI would never work, IBM was slooooooowwwwwww and Epson would drop characters. I charged the client $600 (warned them ahead of time) for my time and told them to buy laser checks. They did and they paid me!

I'm totally okay with the disagreement @JeffSchwenk and hit Like on your post. Just like in the old days, dot matrix troubleshooting is like grasping at straws (whatever that expression is)

After my wrestling with the gator last December, I convinced the client to jump on the ""Go Laser"" bandwagon and I pray that any clients still on DM checks will be as easy to work with as the last one. They bought a brand new printer and everything.

Always good to remind the client the cost of making their old technology work verses buying new. I just laugh when I hear the client tell me they have 10 boxes of continuous feed checks the printer just sold them since it was such a good deal to buy in bulk. A good deal for the printer, true.
