  • 1.  Changing Inventory Valuation

    Client wants to change items with FIFO valuation to serial number.

    Does anyone have a best practice?  Not sure if the inventory valuation utility will work here.  If not, I was thinking adjust to zero, run the valuation utility to change SO's, freeze inventory and import count from Excel CSV spreadsheet.

    Thoughts?

    You may want to use inventory transaction receipts to get them back in, where you can control the unit cost.

    Good thought  Thanks.  Last I used inv transaction receipts, the offset was the purchases clearing account.  is this still the case?

    "Issue" the inventory to the Purchases Clearing account (instead of counting / adjusting to zero), and the numbers may offset each other.

    What we did....

    Client had 10 items to change, 61 serial items to add back in.  We first tried to IM transact out one item with four tiers.  Too laborious.  So we froze inventory for the remaining 9 items by keying a string into the item field (xxxx-xx,xxxx-xx, etc)  We also copied the string so we could paste later.  Update frozen inventory count of zero.  Ran the utility change for the 10 items.  Froze inventory again (pasting the string).  Vi'd the 61 serial numbers into physical inventory.  Updated.  Value of the items was around 150K.  The GL net difference of the adjustment was $359.00.  As they say, close enough for government work.
