CC Swipe Readers compatible with SED 2.0? Apparently, when upgrading to SED 2.0, existing PRE PCI compliant) swipe readers no longer function. Paya is selling Centurion Magtek readers for $72 (NC freight) a pop. It appears that CDW is selling the Centurion for $49 plus shipping and handling. Any reason why we HAVE to buy through Paya?? Client wants their swiping ability back. If you have to purchase through Paya, I'm guessing that might be due to Paya specifically needing to config/code the units.

Try it out - if it doesn't work I bet CDW will refund. I can't imagine that Paya does anything special.

You might be right, @WayneSchulz, but recently I had a client who uses PAYware/Verifone (with IIG CCP) who needed to purchase new chip readers/swipers, of which IIG said the purchased device(s) need to get programmed at Verifone, then sent to the client; apparently just purchasing the unit won't be any help.

Going to order one from CDW to see. I did get feedback from American Payments and the link below is the one they use. I asked about whether their recommended unit had any issues with the Sage Exchange Desktop, they indicated that APS did not use SED. Which I though was odd. https://www.cdw.com/product/Magtek-USB-Keyboard-Emulation-Card-Reader/494276?RecommendedForEDC=436501&RecoType=RP&cm_sp=Product-_-Session&ProgramIdentifier=3

That would be like Sage using SAP...oh wait...

Appears that I will have to throw in the towel and bow down to Paya for my equipment purchase. The latest SED requires encrypted readers apparently only available through Paya

Is there something special about Paya's other than a high price tag? Found this - https://www.cdw.com/product/Magtek-Centurion-USB-Card-Reader/1976697#PO

This is the same one I tested. Open up the CCPaymentSwipeReader1 PDF. It indicates that ** Invalid T_Trackdata Error: **Merchants that have been using unencrypted (clear text) card readers through SED will no longer be able to use those readers an integrated solution.** The Most cost-effective solutions for any SED integration is the Magtek Centurion. Please contact customer support to discuss options for encrypted solutions.** I plan to contact them today to discuss the options available.

Sorry, I was looking at the prices and not your link! Paya is over $70 and this one seemed like a bargain.

Only a bargain if it can be used. Paya is stepping up their game for data encryption. According to tech support, Magtek encrypts Centurion readers specifically for Paya. So you have to deal directly with them. Interesting the APS does not use the SED to capture their data (so I have been told). @PhilipWhirley / @CooperBlack , is this correct?

    Ah, interesting.

Hey @JeffSchwenk, you are correct that APS card swipe does not require Sage Exchange Desktop. You can use just about any wedge reader, which means that it emulates keyboard input. The EMV/chip reader capability will require a very specific device, but the swipe reader does not.

Don't data encryption issues keep you up at night?

Security and data encryption issues take up a great deal of mind space. Everything must move to EMV devices in the very near future. Those are all end-to-end encryption.
