Bottom line: Is there a way to group/filter Sage 1

Bottom line: Is there a way to group/filter Sage 100 companies in Company Lookups? Details: Have a client starting to use Sage 100 Advanced v2016 with over 30 office locations (and growing). Each office will be responsible for specific Sage 100 companies. Total Sage 100 companies is over 300 and growing. Need a way to cut down on selecting and creating companies. With only 3 characters for company code (and the number of companies a few locations have) designating the 1st character in company code for responsible office will not work in a year or 2. Library Master tables aren't available to Custom Office and the company lookup does not see system UDT's. Trade Name looks like the only field that would work (no payroll in any companies).Any other ideas? TIA

Not sure about the licensing issue but could you install multiple instances of Sage 100, maybe on difference virtual machines (one for each office)

Not to mention the ODBC login. That is downright awful with a lot of companies!!! I have a client with 500 entries!! OUCH!!

@KathrynScofield : Trying to avoid that to make maintenance as simple as possible (theoretically). @JimWoodhead : That is a concern that may push us into Kathryn's solution. - or at least some variation of it like putting top locations on their own VM's

Don't tell SAGE!! I think it is definitey a license violation. No way to count users

Couldn't you just create a 'custom lookup' in the Company List. Or several? For example Company Name 'contains' or Company Code Begins with..

@JimWoodhead All would be done within Sage license compliance for sure. Good point. @JohnWilder : Custom Lookup is what the 1st character of the company code would be used for. But concerned about maintaining the logic since there are only 36 possible 1st characters and they already have 30 locations. It is a possibility, but looking for something more flexible.

Embed the company info to the name field then create a custom lookup that uses ""contains"". For example, you could start all company names with #Cxxxx , then create a contains lookup. Obvious downside is your company name looks a bit funky on reports but if you always use the first x characters of the company name it's relatively easy to strip out in many reports.

I would probably use Address Line # 4 in a Custom Lookup to group and or sort lists of companies that should be grouped together. They must have some nomenclature that decides that the NJ office looks at all companies in certain states, or with something specific in their name, or something. Just add a value to the Address Line # 4 for filtering.

@WayneSchulz : Thanks, creative, but I don't like having to modify reports to hide location code. @MadelineStefanou : Hmmm, that might be a possibility since it is very rarely used. There is some overlap of states, but using that field with a location code ( or the Trade Name field) may be a work-around. Thanks also.

@PaulZiliak :I will look at your website video later...our policies don't allow watching videos. (Yes, it made sense at certain point in time, but is outdated now with so much info in YouTube videos.)
