I have a long-time customer on Sage 100 v2020. They use BOM and Production Entry as their quick & dirty mfg system.
For the most part, this works well unless they have to substitute a component on an item they are building.
They tell me they've tried both (a) options and (b) revisions.
The problem that they run into is once the item has been made from BOM Production entry -- AND they've made a substitution of a component from the standard bill - they lose visibility of what that component was that was swapped into the standard BOM.
In their case, it may be a particular model of camera.
The business problem comes when the customer calls in 3 to 5 years and the company then is trying to remember whether any substitution was made on that particular item that was built from BOM.
I have another customer in a similar line of business - they get around this by primarily using kits which they explode on the invoice. This gives visibility on exactly what was sold. I believe in this case the BOM is lengthier and not as easy to turn into a kit so I don't see kitting as a workaround here.
Any thoughts on the least complex way to resolve this and give some visibility into these final builds? Am I overlooking something easy that we could adjust the Sage BOM process for?
TIA
