    BOM Components' Revisions when changing Bill Type from Standard to Kit: I'm noticing that upon changing the Bill Type from Standard to Kit, the line item/component Revisions for sub-assemblies stay in there even though the Line Revision field is now inaccessible - but the Rev's can be seen via DFDM. And then when running the Single-Level BOM report for example, it displays those original Rev's. However, in many cases these Rev's are incorrect but we're unable to edit them in B/M Maint>Lines. Is this ""by design""? Workarounds? Delete and re-key BOM (although some of them have tons of components)? Edit via DFDM?

    You can't have sub-assemblies for kit bills, can you??

    Right, so it would just be looking at the item from Item Maintenance, not as a bill. So the Rev would be immaterial.

    Is this an on going issue? Are they going to continue to change Bill Types. If not, you should be able to reinitialize the component revison file and import just the ones that are still Standard bills. (Provided you exported or copied the orignal file first, of course.)

    @ThereseLogeais, @BethBowers: So then it seems that the Single-Level BOM report is providing incorrect information if it's still displaying the now inconsequential component Rev's; a bit misleading, no? And what if we need to use Kit type Bills for the purposes of exploding during S/O Entry - but we need a certain Rev pulled from Inventory?

    @BrettLyder, I think they've already made all the necessary Bill type changes.

    Not gonna happen @BrettZimmerman. One option might be to use option bills instead of kit bills, which you can explode in order entry but they can be painful...

    I knew there are limitations with using Kit type Bills vs. Standard type, and of course this client is pushing the functionality envelope.

    Revs really only exist in Bills. Once an item is manufactured, there is no easy way of telling in inventory what rev it was, unless maybe you're doing lot costing.

    I suppose if they really need to associate a sub-assembly Rev with a Kit bill, they could set up multiple items. And another option for fixing these misleading Rev's is to delete the bad line from the BOM and re-add it.

    The incorrect Rev info is also apparent in B/M Inquiry. Seems crazy that remnants of the Rev data remains after changing the bill type.

    Have you tried rebuilding the BM files?

    @ThereseLogeais, yes, but no help.

    Hmm, I'm guessing since they were originally entered as standard bills, the Rev info is there to stay unless you manually delete and re-add the components. You could always try an export/import but BM imports are NOT user friendly.

    @BrettZimmerman here's a thought - you might be able to export only the BM kit bill components with Revs in them then import the same file back assigning blanks to the rev field. (Test company only at first!)

    Thanks, @ThereseLogeais. Sounds similar to @BrettLyder's above suggestion.

    Yep @ThereseLogeais I think that approach should work. And yeah, BM imports can be a challenge but i'm still guessing it's better than trudging through DFDM.

    Absolutely! @BrettZimmerman what version are we talking about?

    4.40.0.7

    I haven't done any BM imports in the new framework. You'll have to let me know how it goes if you do one.
