  • 1.  Blank lines in Crystal export (txt,ttx or csv)

    I have a crystal report that needs to export to text to be sent to another system.  The report has a subreport that is sometimes blank, and when that happens the export contains a blank line, even though the preview does not.  Suppress blank subreport is checked, and also suppress blank section is checked.

    Any ideas on getting the export to behave?

    In the subreport, do you have the section set to suppress blank section? Make the section as small as you can but allow it to grow? That way, it won't just be a blank section but it still may create a blank row. Just what I've tried in the past.

    I don't think the CR export to txt obeys section suppression... but if someone has an answer I'd like to hear it.  Normally we see this were it doesn't matter (export to txt for use in an import, where blanks can be ignored), but sometimes we send such files to a 3rd party and they complain about the blanks.

    With Crystal Report with sub reports I normally export as Tab Separated Text (TTX) did you try that?

    Yes, I tried TTX, CSV and TXT.  Switching over to writing a program (which is what I wanted to do in the first place since the file ahs to be delivered via sftp on a schedule anyway...)

    I think I once found a KB article on a SAP forum saying that the blank lines are working as designed when a sub report is involved when exporting to CSV, TTX, and data only versions of Excel.  It has been a while and can't verify at the moment but I think the other version of Excel (the non data only xls one) will not include the blank rows if the section is set up to suppress a blank section and the sub report is set up to suppress a blank sub report.
