Big Data is a big issue. I do not agree with companies like Sage taking on this groping of clients information, but was pretty surprised to see in this article that any company that does business in EU is subject to European Privacy laws. It will be interesting how the proposed California law will eventually affect http://na.sage.com/sage-100-erp/lp/sage-100-erp-survey/

Sage was asked last year if they intended to mine data for aggregate information such as sales statistics and my memory is that they said yes. However I think implementation is another thing since this crosses privacy boundaries. My guess is that if they do mine it might be based on providing the customer with feedback about how they stack up against other companies in their industry. Of course in order to get that data they have to share with Sage so that Sage can crunch the statistics...

In order to get that data they have to share with Sage..."" @WayneSchulz with the changes in the EULA and the need to distinctly op out of the current product enhancement program (which btw is PEP and too close to peepping) don't you think that there will be many end users that will be automatically opted in to mining and would have to dig (or have their reseller dig) for the feature to turn off this snooping?

I can't believe Oracle (via Java) and Adobe (via flash) and Apple (via quicktime installer) all engage, IMHO as crapware installers. Unless you remember to click otherwise, when you install Flash, you get McAffee's virus scan teaseware, when you install Java, you get your search engine changed to Ask! unless you click otherwise, when you install quicktime you end up with a whole pile of Apple software like itunes, unless you click otherwise. And these companies act holier than thow?
