  • 1.  Best way to reserve inventory for delivery months later?

    Posted 02-04-2021 11:06
A customer just asked a question which I think is probably more common than I realize.

This company sells skis. They obviously are in a busy season now and are fulfilling orders daily.
Yet they also have customers who are retail stores. These customers order for delivery in the Fall.

If they enter the sales order for future delivery - it shows the qty "on so" - - which makes their "available" inventory appear lower than it should be ( since some of those orders are future delivery ).

I suspect multi-bin can be used as well as a separate "future delivery" warehouse.
However, both of those seem like they would require some manual oversight - I'm wondering if I'm missing some trick to reserve inventory for future delivery without impacting your current available?

Create the order as a Quote, and don't convert to Standard until later?

Thanks. Both good ideas. I’m hoping for something that the customer ( or their staff ) won’t have to remember to do each week/quarter.

It sounds like quotes might work since the customer says they always confirm future orders with the customer so entering them as quotes rather than open orders makes more sense.

Set up an automated alert to warn when quotes are nearing their ShipExpireDate, and there's nothing for them to remember.
