"Basic Bar Code" Scanner

  • 1.  "Basic Bar Code" Scanner

    From a Sage 100 client.....

Do you know of a basic handheld that people use for year end inventory…something that scans a barcode, you can input a quantity, and upload to mas.

What he is looking for is an inexpensive scanner that will magically do all of this.  At this point, he doesn't want to pay for a ScanForce or Scanco solution.

I am not a programmer so I am not into writing the application.

    Thoughts??

The closest I've seen is someone using a scanner to scan a bar code into an Excel spreadsheet and then upload that using VI

That is what they are doing now with a laptop on a cart.  Scan the label for part number and bin location, enter the quantity, rinse repeat.  Consolidate the count via a pivot table, the upload.

    Hi Jeff,

I would check to see if .Net 3.5 is installed. I have had similar issues when it was not.  It has to be installed by going to Control Panel > Programs & Features & then to Turn Windows Features on or off.  If you have any issues getting it to come up, do a reboot to make sure all windows updates have been applied.

    Thank you,

I have a client who bought some inexpensive scanners YEARS ago to do physical - I think he even managed to get it to do something with aliases.  But basically it created a CSV he could download and then import into VI.  I doubt if those scanners are still around, but I'm sure there's something similar.  I can ask for model, if you'd like.

Please.  That would be awesome.  They have been using the Excel/Laptop set up for years.  They may be able to figure this out for themselves.

I have "sheets" on my Android phone.  It is a spreadsheet program that look a little like Excel.  I haven't tried it but I imagine you could use the phone to scan data into it.  It would probably be an improvement over pushing a laptop around in a cart.

Cipherlab 8000 about $600 each.  Client uploads a file of Aliases and Item Codes into the scanners so he can validate.  You do have to sum by item if you have them in more than one location, though.

We rented a bunch of $2,000 programmable scanners for $125/week each plus $250 one-time programming fee from here: https://www.mss-software.com/ You'll get current technology there were lots of choices in how to program them for validation and upload format.

We had them sent to here in Oregon, but they are from your neck of the woods in Virginia! See bill@mss-software.com

Worth Data has a Tri-Coder for about $700 that stores the count for later download.  They also have cheap wired and wireless scanners ($179 for wired).  Pretty easy to use and reliable.
