    Hello

The IT resource for a client posed this question after reading the system requirements document for Sage 100 Standard and wanting to host on Azure.

Any one have any experience as a response?

    Hey Douglas,

Looking over the Docs I noticed that there's a item mentioning that the Sage system won't run on azure Windows Virtual Desktop pooled mode.

We are looking to utilize Aazure WVD but are not sure if it would really fall into that category since it would be a single VM and not an actual VM pool.

It could be however that the restriction is actually due to the fact that it would be running on a Multisession Version of windows 10, basically like a windows 10 terminal server. I'm wondering if that's going to be an issue or if there's a way you know of to test it in such a capacity if we spun up a multisession version to test with.

Alternatively, if you don't have any info or can't really help with that, maybe there's a presales number that we can call to inquire?

    Thanks,

I don't have a way of testing this but maybe it just needs the same activate.pvx copy deal that you need to do on terminal servers?

Swapping the ACTIVATE.PVX file doesn't work, unfortunately.  It's a slightly different message you receive when you attempt to launch Sage from a RDWeb Client you get "A Sage 100 Session has already been initiated".

The relevant Sage KB is 104996.  Sage's workaround is "don't do that"...

Hey @Jim Petrie - I did a fix for @Larry Bradford 's customer for this issue on KB 104996. The issue will definitely occur on Advanced / Premium but should not occur on Standard.

We're actually in the middle of spinning up a pooled WVD for Sage 100 Adv and haven't had any issues yet.  I'll report any findings in a few days.

So we had pretty good luck with Sage 100 2020 Advanced as a Published App in Windows Virtual Desktop (will be pooled) in that we didn't get any of those reported errors, but the users do get a "Record '' is missing from SY_Workstation" (error 11 below) sometimes on first start.  If they immediately try again, they get in and can work.  We played around with the ClientName, SessionName, ComputerName environmental variables but it didn't make a difference. It feels like a timing issue to me, so we're going to experiment with some delays and also try full Published Desktops to see if that causes any changes.

Next up, we're testing Sage 100 Standard to see how performance is.

Steve, we've been seeing this issue some with a couple of our customers and I was curious how your experiments with the delays worked when uses tried to log in.  Thanks,

We were never able to get Sage 100 Advanced to work consistently with Multi-session Windows 10 so we ended up using Windows Server as the OS, which worked fine out-of-the-box (still under Azure Virtual Desktop). Sage 100 Standard worked under multi-session Windows 10, but the performance hit was definitely noticeable for our customer.

Depending on your user count, you may want to check out the Windows 365 offering (single-desktop-per-user).

Would Premium have the same issues as advanced?

I would assume so, but haven't actually tested it. We just rolled those with Windows Server and I figured I'd try everything again once we have our next Sage 2022 upgrade.
