CORRECTION TO THE SUBJECT LINE. It appears to be Sage. Once client uses AvaTax, the other does not. The one that does not did get a PR 2.25 and IRD update.
An old issue seems to have resurfaced. 2 clients reporting this today. Misc charge or comment on Line 1 throws an error and sets InvalidTaxCalc to Y. RecalcTax doesn't clear. TaxError prints on Order/Invoice.
Workaround is to enter an Item on Line 1, Accept the Order/Invoice, then enter /* on Line 1.
