Is there really no way to control the sales tax G/L accounts in Sage 100 when using AvaTax?  I'm told all tax amounts go to one G/L account, so you would need to review the accruals by state via one or more reports inside the client's AvaTax account (and/or via a custom report).  Does this seem crazy to anyone else?  Client implements AvaTax to automate and streamline the sales tax process, but they still need to manually make monthly reclass journal entries for all the various states?  Am I missing something?

I wound up creating a report that separated the tax by the state as well as tax/non-tax.
That's what I used to tie out the tax although I wasn't charged with reconciling the GL itself.

Other than Division Maintenance, no.  Using Sales Tax Account Maintenance is a potential enhancement.  How would you describe the requirement?

I believe the other issue is with marketplaces.

If I recall correctly, Avalara does show the tax on the invoice for a marketplace sale and accrues it on the GL. Avalara manages it properly on its reporting system.

I had a customer pitch a fit over this and spent all sorts of time helping with workarounds, reports, etc.

Avalara is deceptively easy to install into Sage 100. However, the reconciliation can be a challenge if the customer doesn't have a strong accounting department of 2+ people.

PRO TIP: Never ever (ever) take on an Avalar where the customer asks you to "help" them with the reconciliation. The possibility of going down a lengthy rabbit hole is better than 50% in my experience. The best way to manage this is to charge a monthly retainer and the customer only need to pay for the months they ask for your help.

Agree with @Wayne Schulz regarding reconciliation.  If Avalara Returns is used, there are other adjustments that can occur with Avalara remittances that differ from the sales tax calculated.  Marketplaces can be configured, but can be challenging.
