  • 1.  Avalara Tax Schedules

    We are in late-stage of Avalara implementation for a customer. This is our first. 

    There are 3 tax schedules that Avalara uses: <g class="gr_ gr_16 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="16" data-gr-id="16">AVATAX</g>, AVATAXPOD (Point of Destination), and <g class="gr_ gr_17 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="17" data-gr-id="17">AVATAXPOS</g> (Point of Origin).

    We are having trouble getting a clear, timely answer from Avalara about how & when these three are used. Can anybody shed some light on this?

    I may be able to find out on the POD and POS but the first one is used immediately per line item when avatax is the tax schedule on the invoice (or sales order header).

    I went further down that FAQ path and confirmed that <g class="gr_ gr_148 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="148" data-gr-id="148">AVATAX</g> schedule means that Avalara uses the rules it has about the state(s) involved as to whether it uses Origin or Destination.

    Interstate sales are always <g class="gr_ gr_150 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" id="150" data-gr-id="150">Destination</g>. Intrastate sales rely on the state rules and product type (services are often destination). Defining the products sold with the correct Avalara Type (Service, Digital, etc.) is important here.
