Avalara issue

    The below message I received from Avalara after two different clients cannot invoice orders shipping to another country. Wanted to share because i doubt we are the only ones seeing it.  I've worked with Avalara, recorded videos etc.. it seems the only work around is changing the country back to the US to post after printing anything important for shipping etc...

    From Avalara:

    The message regarding "VAT de minimis threshold" is informational only and can be disregarded. This message was added to Avatax with our 09/01/2021 content update. However, we are aware that this can pose problems down the line with shipment and posting.

    We have escalated this issue as a top priority with all stakeholders and related partners including Sage. We have determined the source and are currently researching the proper resolution. This will likely involve a combination of corrections including the possibility of an update to the Sage 100 connector. This likely requires a fair amount of design, coding, and extensive testing, as this affects how our connector communicates errors and other information back to the Sage 100 application. Unfortunately, we do not yet have an ETA on a resolution.

    We do understand how this is affecting your business and Avalara Management is fully aware of this issue and is applying the requisite visibility, pressure, and urgency. We apologize for the disruption to your business.

    The other managers and I will be getting constant updates from the engineering teams involved and we will keep you apprised of any important updates in the meantime.

    We have a client getting this too. It started on 9/1. I have them switch the tax schedule from AVATAX to AVATAXPOD and it allows them to post without issue. And thanks for the info. We haven't been able to get an answer from Avalara support since it started.

    I also have a client with this issue.  I upgraded them from version 2019 to version 2020 on 09/04/21 and they started getting the message this week.

    I went into DFDM, SO_InvoiceHeader and changed the InvalidTaxCalc field from a Y to a N and then I could post the invoice as is.  I found a KB that led me in this direction.

    If you know:

    1. Is this specific to certain Sage versions?
    2. Does it only apply to updated connectors or is this something that is occurring on Avalara’s side and therefore could impact any Avalara users
    3. Is there anything else that has to be done after either of the mentioned workarounds ( corrections to GL or tax reporting, etc ?)

    I also have a client getting this, they are on v2019 Premium. No upgrade or change; it just started 2 weeks ago. I also did the DFDM fix for them on the InvlaidTaxCalc field to retain the actual country data on the invoice & get it to post. They need the records to reflect correctly for history reports on sales per country/state, so just switching back to USA is not a proper fix or workaround. I had reported it to DSD & my client was opening a ticket with Avalara as well.

    This error message is also causing invoice to fail upon VI imports. All the Canada orders just failed for my same client. Avalara gave them the same message about being able to move past it, but its not true. This just fails these records & even if they key it in, it will not let them update them until I fix it in DFDM.



    "Thank you kindly for being patient as we worked to resolve this unexpected VAT threshold prompt issue in Sage.

    We have received an update from our Software Bundle Development teams at Avalara that they are working with urgency to build the solution and are targeting 9/27 to deploy a fix that will resolve this prompt.

    For now they have confirmed this prompt should only be a WARNING and NOT blocking any transactional data from processing.

    You should be able to simply select "ok" and proceed with processing or saving the transaction.

    If you are noticing the error is blocking you from processing transactional data in any way, please kindly let us know on here and we will let our Dev teams know with the highest urgency immediately.

    We will report back as soon as we hear findings and next steps from our software engineering teams.

    Thank you for contacting Avalara regarding Case#21527519 - Shipment meets JP VAT de minimis threshold. Therefore VAT applies. Below is a summary of the issue and instructions for resolving it.

    Just an update. This is not completely fixed yet.
    I applied the new DSD build last night & it made the VAT message go away & allowed invoices to be VI imported again, but it is not calculating tax on anything to Canada (maybe other countries as well) that has taxable sales of $31.50 or below, which includes all refunds. Key in $31.51 & tax calculates. $31.50 or below, its zero.
    I was just on chat with Avalara & they are aware that this is part of the issue that is still ongoing.

    Interesting, applied one on one client last night, doing the other tonight.  But in both of the cases they don't collect VAT or anything for other countries according to their setup so I'm hopeful this won't be an issue....

    Neither does my client. They don't even use Avalara to report Canada tax. They use it to calculate it, but not report it. They do it manually.

    Wondering if this issue has been resolved with further updates of the connector?
    I have two customers I contacted and I would rather update the connector only once since I need everyone out and for most of my customers big enough to use Avalara they also are big enough to be running in multiple time zones which makes getting everyone out somewhat inconvenient.

    Based on Dana’s finding, the latest build removes the message. I installed it yesterday for a client and am awaiting confirmation.
    According to the Canada website, there are “de minimus” rules for VAT, however I didn’t see one for $31.50. This issue is a tax rule needing an answer from Avalara.

    I have a client where sales tax needs to be calculated for the UK for the first time.  The DSD update from 09/16/21 is installed.  Is anyone having issues with sales tax (VAT) calculating for the UK?
