Auto deductions don't work on payroll import after upgrading to 4.5. Still receive the prompt to take auto deductions, but they don't show up in payroll entry. Tried removing and adding the auto deduction field on the data tab (assigned to Y) and removed and added the Earning_Type - file assigned (Sage KB article). Has anyone seen this happen in 4.5?

Yep - they were previously on 4.2 and it was already set up this way with the earnings type being file assigned after the earnings code. But I removed it and added it back just in case.

Is it prompting for the deduction period?

yes, and they select 1 (which they have always done)

Just one thought - do you reinitialize the PR data entry files after each attempt? I know I've had some things get out of whack if I don't reinitialize the files.

I've been clearing payroll on the front end, haven't reinitialized on the back end but I can try that out, thanks.

Does it create the Pay Cycle info correctly? I think I had the customer create it prior to importing in 4.3.

yes, it shows the auto deductions box checked when we open up payroll data entry

I had this - let me see how I resolved it. I'm pretty sure it was a 4.4 issue.

I don't have any notes that this was a bug. I think I just re-created the VI job. I've sent you a copy.

We had this issue just recently (last week?). Somebody had an MD enhancement that disabled the auto import. I wonder if it really is this problem.....

So I just decided to try a very simple PR import (4.5 PU3) on my own machine and can't get the auto deductions to work. The prompt to take auto deductions appears right after I hit accept on the import, I select yes and deduction period 1, all records import fine, the pay cycle defaults to the correct one when I open up payroll, the entries are there - but no deductions (I have checked the employees and they have auto deductions for pay period 1). On the client's machine there are not any enhancements, but on my own we have direct deposit (not Sage direct deposit) but that's never intefered with anything in the past. I'm just curious - does anyone have this working successfully in 4.5 PU3?

My recent bout was with 4.4 - do you want me to remote and grab that copy on an export? This sounds so familiar though I think the issue I had might have been with the deduction code and having to set it to be used for the right period.

that would be great Wayne - I just tested in 4.4 and had the same results, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong

Double check the perform logic too - sometimes I find that I have to add something in that I didn't expect.

Eric - I am now working on this same issue after performing a 4.5 upgrade from 4.4 Auto Deductions not prompting here.

That worked - thanks Wayne! There were differences (for instance, deduction code & type on the data tab even though the line type was assigned to E for earnings) and a few other minor details, but after changing every minute detail back to my original import job, one by one so I could see where the true issue lies, it still works. So I have two jobs now, and I swear they are exactly the same, all 4 tabs and the perform logic - one works for auto deductions and one doesn't. Johnny, attached is the simplified version of the job Wayne sent me - for csv import.

just imported into 4.5 and works there as well - I'd love to know what the difference is - from i can tell it's something behind the scenes that can't be seen from the VI job configuration/maintenance tabs

Could it have been perform logic? I remember having a similar WTF moment in 4.4 until I copied in a free VI

Ok I rewrote the PR import and it now prompts for auto deductions and periods.

Johnny - make sure it not only prompts, but pulls them into the payroll entry and calculates the auto deductions - the jobs I've been working have prompted all along, but they didn't really put the deductions on the payroll entries, until I used the job Wayne sent me.

A couple of things I have ran into. 4.5.3 and 4.5.4 were requring JC to be installed. Also there are sample vi jobs under the MAS\PR directory if you have 4.5.4 installed. @EricAnderson Good point on testing - I will test it tomorrow.

This one is hitting me now. Any thought besides rewriting the PR import?

@JeffSchwenk scroll up - there was a VI import that I uploaded which Eric seemed to say worked

v4.4.10 -- Geez, being stubborn, I took @JohnnyPabian route and rewrote the VI. An hour (or so), later it wasn't working so I imported @EricAnderson 's. Made the necessary changes and would you believe, the danged auto deduction works......... Go figure..... Now why does that work when a brand new rewritten one doesn't. Only the Shadow knows. Thanks all.

just ran into this issue again and had to rebuild the import job using the file above - must remember this post!!! But on the other hand... I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet! Why won't a standard PR import job take auto deductions?!?! - crazy

There is something in the PU's (or the IRD) that break the import. My client has been on v44 for some time. PR VI auto deductions worked in December, didn't in January. The only difference was the IRD installed at YE. Rekeying the VI entirely worked. Actually did it twice as the first one blew up when I reopened it. Oops, that DARN JC validation logic when the JC module is not installed.....

Yep, I built the job - got the standard Job Cost delete job error, rebuilt the job, imported (had a backup in case), remembered after looking at payroll that auto deducts don't work, imported the other job, and rebuilt a 3rd time. Maybe we need to post this on LinkedIn so Sage will fix these issues.
