  • 1.  ATTN: problem with MA PFML (Paid Family Medical Leave) after 12/12 P/R Tax Update on new Payroll

    Posted 12-17-2019 09:38

ATTN:  Please note that the new Payroll will likely not properly calculate MA PFML (Paid Family Medical Leave) after installing the latest 12/12 Payroll Tax Update.  Although Sage's below last-minute e-mail communication on 12/12 re: the 12/12 Tax Update  (solely entitled 'New filing status available') mentions a change re: MA PFML (which has nothing to do with filing statuses), in their infinite wisdom no where do they specifically mention that the payroll won't calculate correctly unless you (re-)visit the applicable MA PFML settings (although it is nice that Sage decided to e-mail all the Partners; just wish it was more timely and more inclusive of its impact and required actions).

Although I'm waiting to hear back from the client who informed me of this issue yesterday, it appears the four below checkboxes (see 'before' and 'after' screen-shots) need to be addressed in Tax Profile Maint for each applicable MA-related Tax Profile (although I believe you can't change a Tax Profile if it's present in any existing P/R Data Entry).  It's also possible that Company Tax Group Setup needs to be (re-)visited as well.

Thanks for this notice.  Unfortunately, client processed payroll and updated before noticing no MA PFML calculated yesterday.  Will log in and double check with them before processing next Monday's payroll.  200 employees – they have decided to eat the tax expense rather than manually playing catch up and adjusting the calculated deduction next payroll.

My client who hit this issue has 25 payroll companies.  I don't yet know how many they processed with this issue.
Here's an update to my Sage City post:

    Sorry for any confusion.

For MA Family and Medical Leave taxes for 2019:
Go into Tax Profile Maintenance and make sure the MA Family Leave Taxes are selected. We are currently looking into why they have been de-selected. You should not need to do anything else if you've already had these taxes setup and working for the current year. You can select the MA Medical Leave taxes but they are NOT effective until 1/1/20. So will not calculate for 2019.

For MA Family and Medical Leave taxes for 2020 and beyond:
Go into Tax Profile Maintenance and make sure all four taxes are selected for both WA EE and ER Family and Medical Leave. Also, go into Company Tax Group Setup and enter the correct effective rates for all four taxes effective 1/1/20.

You need to follow these steps to make sure the tax reporting is correct thru Aatrix in both 2019 and 2020. FYI: The Family and Medical leave taxes need to be reported separately on the MA form. Hence, the reason for the changes. Changes are effective 1/1/20 because tax reporting would be difficult if made sooner since they were originally lumped together.

    On page 4:
"This guide pertains to the versions of Payroll that are compatible with Sage 100 2018 and later."

Are ALL payroll versions 2.xx compatible with Sage 100 2018 (6.0) and above?
