Yea @JeffSchwenk because if you went overboard, you might have your backup tapes with you in your pockets and they would be ruined. You wouldn't have them backed up in two bi-coastal data centers in the cloud at http://www.eversafe-backup.com :)

Actually, back in the day when I was actually using MAS, I worked in an office where the server was sitting on a table in the accounting office. To make a long story short, it was stolen. Luckily, the BU tapes were not. But the BU was several days old. And when the replacement server arrived and was set up, the latest tape snapped during the restore. Those WERE the days.....

There you go @MarkChinsky , a free testimonial about what you do NOT want to happen.

LOl. And I bet it took days to get the replacement server. Even if the tape didn't snap, it probably meant 4-12 days of down time from start to finish. Now days there really is nowhere to get a server overnight unless you want to buy something you don't want and want to spend more time & money replacing it when you can manage the downtime.

This was back in 1995. Sunday morning was when the server went missing. We had a interim server by Tuesday. Tape broke on Tuesday PM. Spent the rest of the week rekeying lost data (Good tape was a week old). A week later the replacement server arrived. It had a MONSTER 4 GB mirrored drive. I was flabbergasted at the size of it!!!!! How would we ever use that much capacity....
